Im looking for Lens Gears for Leica R lenses Summilux 35, 50 80 plus Summicron 24 and 28mm and may be the 100m macro. Id hope to find machined gears rather than the belt type gear. Can any one point be in the right direction ?

thanks,

Dave

Dave what lens mount solution are you using?

At this point I have been using all of my different brand lenses with EF adapters.
I just picked up a Lumix GH1 that I'm real excited about.
I have a bunch of lens mount adapters on the way for it that will let you mount just about any lens made.

Focus gears for the Leica R lenses are really no different from any other lens.
Just send them to a reputable lens tech and they will machine them to perfectly fit each lens.

I hope to use them on Epic and also on a Canon camera's we already have, but in the mean time Im hoping that Allstar will come up with a mount for Red one, if not then Action products. initially I wanted to use the P&S mount but with the warrenty stuff its didnt work out.

A big part of Red for us was access to glass other glass so interchangeable mounts are important to us.

I'll definitely be making a Epic mount for the Leica's. I love these lenses and can't wait to get them on epic (some leica frame grabs below).

Id be very interested. I have to say Im looking for something along the lines of the P&S mount system which I think will I think Epic will support.

Mounts Id like to have access to are

PL
Canon EF
Canon FD
Leica R
Contax Y/C
Nikon
BNCR

You will be able to round up a hefty supply of glass through those mounts.

As a side, There are times I wish I had a machine shop in my back yard.
I would be kicking out lens mounts left and right.
I find it sad that Red has been out for some time now, and we are just starting to see a couple of mounts for it.
As a contrast, for that little GH1 I just got, I have already ordered mounts in... C/Y, EF, FD, Nikon, Leica R, Leica M, C, Arri Standard, and I'll order the PL mount and a couple of others next week.

Im beginning to think the GH1 may be a better bet than a 7D.....

I still want Scarlet though.

I try not to get caught up in all the hype when it comes to these new cameras.
But rather, try to make an assessment as to whether camera X will be a beneficial tool at that price point, and how it would fit into my workflow.
The other thing to consider in this ever changing pool of technology is, how immediate are your needs. If you need a solution today, then obviously you are limited to what is available now, not what might be available in 7 months. In my book these little HDSLR cameras that are out now are a great little tool at that price point, which can be used in so many different ways.
Small portable light weight, they can be used where you would not want to use your Red as a crash cam. They offer great control over depth of field, and there is a huge amount of amazing glass available to dress them out.
So at $1500 I thought the GH1 was a tool I could put to use now.
The 7D looks to be a great tool when it is available in hands, and it will be interesting to see how the scene changes when Scarlet is up and running.
