  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Surprise...

"Better?" Perhaps. But you can only do live 4K color correction on a very few devices, all very expensive. Not to mention the fact that almost nobody uses 4K projection for color correction because most of us feel that the Sony projector is just not optimal, particularly in the blacks, for that purpose. So the question isn't is it "better," the question is whether it's cost effective, and whether the differences are particularly noticeable in whatever format you're delivering. Since very, very few deliveries are in 4K, the issue becomes whether the differences can really be seen in either a 2K delivery, a film print, or an HD version to the point that it's worth paying for the time and associated expense associated with doing it that way. My own opinion is that in the vast, vast majority of cases, it's not. But that's just my opinion, and I don't happen to have a $400,000 Pablo system sitting around.

Hmmm....makes a lot of sense mmost !!!

I guess I should clarify what I mean.

First, performing a 4k debayer is not the same thing as mastering in 4k. In other words, working with a 4K (full debayer) may be the best path for some issues even when the target output is 1080.
Secondly, unlike most camera acquisition formats out there, Red is a bayer pattern, wavelet compressed, Raw image capturing device. These 3 basic elements (essentially) make up R3D files. But unlike just putting a simple video cassette tape into its respective deck, Red files need to undergo unique "unwrapping" processes in order to work with them. With literally thousands of R3D processing combination potentials, one needs to often evaluate the media source in order to best determine an ideal way in which to massage it.
Lastly, all the tricks and tactics that go into any process PlasterCITY uses (including processes for other cameras) are based on numerous factors. But one thing to note: you don't necessarily need a Pablo in order to make this footage sing. Hundreds of people are doing it right every single day-but many are probably still missing out on image potential.
To that I say "do what we do:"
TEST, TEST, TEST!

This one is easier to understand Paul! (my english is not that good)

Ye it is possible to make wonderfull images without a top end system, but the render times are scaring :)

Anyway, superb job with the RED demo reel!

Thanks!

Antoine

Reel looked fantastic, I am inspired!

For all those having smooth playback issues, I too was having some issues on my 8 core mac pro (2.8). I created a ram drive and played it from there and the jitters went away. Dunno why or how, but that worked for me

is it so hard to release a list of the source shots ? PLS !

btw it looks spectacular !

No place to put GBs of r3d files. Plus, we don't have the rights to post raw files for people to do their own grading and post on someone else's work.

I think he's asking for more simplistic data, as in the names of every commercial, 'video', and 'film' that was shown in snipits on the reel. Well, who has the time when you're standing jaw agape at this great display?! Enjoy it and move on to your own great creations! Maybe you'll (I'll) be in the next highlight reel!

Great work, folks! I love these kinds of pipe-dreams! Waiting to pounce in the wings....

sorry ... it's a late question but i really like to know: whats the song from start (00:18) until 01:09

thanks in advance !!!
