Sorry guys if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

I've never used L&T for Red files, but I've used it for P2 a bunch of times. I've always exported ProRes files from RedCine for my Red workflow. But with the new suite I decided to give it a go.

I downloaded the L&T plug-in and QT codec from Red, and I now get the Red L&T info (sepia, as shot, etc) to show up in the pull down menu of the L&T window, which should indicate that it installed. I clicked 'native' under the preferences, but when I go back to 'custom path' to bring in the files, they are all grayed out.

The other catch is that I thought the new QT codec was supposed to be able to play R3D files, but when I try to open one with QT, it freezes up (it's QT 7.6.2). I don't know it that is part of the issue.

What am i doing wrong? I'm thinking it's something dumb.

make sure that you downloaded the right fcs installer; there's different ones for both studio 2 & studio 3; also the order you installed them in might make a difference; have you tried rebooting after instal?

Just a few ideas.

Yep. I rebooted and checked to make sure it was for FCS3. I installed the L&T plug-in first, then the QT codec.

I keep thinking that there is something so obvious that I am missing that it's easy to overlook.

Thanks for the help. I'll keep at it.

did you instal it under an admin account? with some of the red software it can't write the necessary permissions unless the user is an admin user; i didn't think either of those 2 components required it; but it's something else to try

Yeah, there's only the one account on my system and it prompted me for the admin password for both installs.

I'm still stumped on this, but I keep thinking that I am dong something wrong. Is there a detailed, step-by-step description of the L&T process somewhere?

I'll say it till blue in the face, FCP L&T is not stable enough for Pro Work, use RedRushes. Thats the only answer, besides reformatting your computer and re-installing OSX/FCP every moth.

Get Clipfinder!

Redrushes, Clipfinder and Monkey extract are my holy trinity of RED workflow. These are the only solutions I have found to be stable and always working.

OKay, so forgive my ignorance once again. I found redrushes in redalert. It seems like a great tool.

I have a question though. Is there a difference in quality between doing a native L&T and using that vs. say outputting to prores through RedRushes? Or is RedRushes pretty much doing the same thing that RedCine does without the one-light options and in a batch format?

Thanks.
