I just had a thought - Red Team, have a look at the PlayStation Portable's analogue thumb joystick for possible inspiration for what to put on Epic and Scarlet:

This idea came to me after reading the other thread about focusing Epic. With zoom selected (before it was 1:1), the R1 joystick would move in segments to pan around the zoomed in image.

Now, with 1:1 pixel zooming, if you had the ability to move the joystick gently (analogue sensing) to pan slowly in 1:1 mode, or move it further from centre for faster panning (but still smooth in motion), it would make for a very cool interface. This same analogue sensing joystick could be used to manipulate curves gradually in camera, as well as a host of other functions that would benefit from a non-digital joystick (such as focus point selection in the autofocus parts of the system when they are implemented). Another analogue use could be as a pseudo follow-focus controller, again with small movements from centre giving a slow focus change and a larger movement giving a faster focus change.

The possibilities are virtually endless....

Placed under one's thumb on a grip this would be ideally placed for solo shooters.

No more features please. Just delivery

I've been thinking of this for a while. What if there was a little handheld monitor that you could touch/drag a stylus across thereby controlling where the camera focuses. You could do fast racks by touching different points, or drag as someone is moving in the frame. This is such an obvious idea but I haven't heard anyone mention it. Doesn't sound too far fetched with smart lenses and lens mounts. What do ya think?

Don't worry.. Jim thought of that idea quite a few years ago, and will be a feature in Scarlet and Epic.

This feature is huge. Does everyone hear this?!! Jarred I've followed the boards daily for the past 2 years. Never posted because I always had my questions asked and answered by someone else. Nice to meet ya. You guys rule.

I think this stylus feature is HUGE, especially for FULL FRAME. Every single 5dM2 video clip I see is out of focus. Even when shrunken down to web size!

There are alot of awesome features we haven't talked about yet :)

Man, I'm sorry but damn. It really sounds like you guys are about to forge a even more massive innovation than the red one. I really think the whole industry is going to be different. Old AC's who are completely amazing at their skills are going to be SOL. Just sayin. Sucks, but that's the way the technology cookie crumbles, but that's everything...

Yup. Jake is freaking out over this, hehe... welcome to the Red-Universe (must be read aloud by the guy that did the Twilight Zone intro)... where your mind will be blown every 3.14159 months or so. Hehe...

I agree, this is going to be VERY swheet, but I think the magic will be in the implementation of it. Sounds like they have been VERY hard at work so we might be in for a MAJOR treat once we get to see this in the flesh.

Muahahah... MUAHAHAHAH.... MUAHAHAHAHAH!!!

R we there yet? R we there yet? R we there yet? R we there yet? R we there yet? R we there yet? R we there yet? R we there yet? R we there yet?

Ok maybe not "entry level" but nowhere near what it takes to be a great focus pulling AC now. Whats that little handheld nintendo system which uses a stylus, the DS I think, well those guys playing it are in training now!

I'd put a cca. 2-2.5" touchpad and put it on the REDhandle under the thumb.

No need for additional screen and free hands, and the cursor on the monitor would show which part is focused - when pointing finger holds focus button. Thumb controls focus point, pointing finger activates focusing and later you could add a knob on the left side or left handle for additional control between touch selected A-B points.

Just an idea...

I guess he was tired waiting for ViewFactor Impero to materialise.
