This is very suspicious on Red's part but I'm just saying -- I was recovering a lost clip from my Red's Drive, and of course, since I didn't ever fully delete the drive, I got clips from when I first received the camera. I remembered all of them, but two of them really scared me. They were clips of an older man in front of a green screen. This was never shot with the camera as I am the only one who has ever used it. Is it possible I got a used hard drive from Red (although obviously I bought it as being "new") and they forgot to erase it. Very suspicious Red... you better have an explanation. I do not mean to say Red has done anything wrong, I was just scared by why this clip was on my camera.

And old man? Bummer... I got nekkid ladies on my 16GB CF cards. :)

Seriously though, that is a little weird.

No seriously though, I bought the camera and all the accessories new from red and I get this footage of an old man on a green screen -- was my camera and equipment refurbished?!?!?

We only sell new RED-DRIVES, mikeyai. If you want to send me a framegrab of what you pulled to brent - at - red - dot - com, I can take a look. Only thing I can think of is that since we QC every drive before it leaves RED that some footage shot for QC did not get secure-deleted.

It could possibly have been a test to ensure the kit was working - I wouldn't put it past Red to shoot weird stuff to test kit!

I agree it's very odd though, and I can understand your wanting an explanation - I'm sure someone from Red will get back to you on that. Also, you might find it quicker to contact their support team directly and supply them a copy of the file...

Man, the RedUndead utility sure as hell works though, hey?! I'm gonna have to try that out myself...

Do I win a prize?! ;)

That is pretty strange. Maybe they just used that to test your camera before they sent it out. I hope they aren't selling refurbished as new. i don't think they would do that. But i haven't heard what they are doing with their returned but still good items.

Mike, you've clearly contacted the dead, you should answer back if the guy in the footage asks any questions.

That or Red was just doing their job to test every unit that leaves the factory :-)

We shoot with it :)

Rest assured, Cory, if it is delivered to a customer and not returned as new ( see our terms and conditions at www.red.com/terms for criteria ), it goes to demo stock or is used for testing, etc. It does not go out to another customer.

***cue Twilight Zone music***

I would not sleep alone in a room with that RED Drive, if I were you...if that old man visits you in your dreams, be afraid, be very afraid.

Not sure why exactly I freaked out, but I did because its kinda weird finding footage you know was never shot, kinda like something out of a movie. It freaked me out so much I secure deleted the whole drive so I don't have the clips... sorry. What I can tell you is that it was an old man talking to the camera on a green screen and there were two clips of him, a close up and a shot from his waist up.... Perhaps we will see more of this as people begin to use Redundead. Unless you have secure wiped your hard drive, go ahead and try it! Who knows what you may find.

I find unusual footage on my tapeless systems all the time..."HEY KIDS, PUT DADDY'S CAMERA DOWN!"...but never have figured it out.

I believe I spoke too soon about erasing the footage as it was only erased somewhat, but I was able to get a snapshot in RedCine... here it is (be afraid!):
