  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PL Mount 11-16mm f2.8 Prototype, Manual Iris

This is partially true. We did re-mechanize the aperture linkage, effectively extending the rotation to allow for a manual aperture ring with legible engravings. Although, we did not increase the diameter of the aperture at full open. As most people would, we assumed that the lens would read a t-stop of T3. I'm going to check the lens on several t-stop benches just to be completely sure... But most people around here use the Kish Optics T-stop bench, which my father built.. I'm pretty sure they will give the same reading.

T-stop , in my opinion, is more accurate since it is physically measured with the lens itself.
F-stop does not account for poor coatings or light lost in lenses with many groups.
I always assume that manufacturers account for this sort of thing.
But according to the definition of what "f-stop" is, they don't have to.

Okay, your description is exactly what I thought and described.

So you're saying that the Tokina "f stop" is actually a T stop since they already accomodated for light loss?

Not really... What Im saying is when Tokina did the math and calculated the f-stop, they probably didnt realize that their glass would produce a reading with the same number.
I highly doubt they did that on purpose. T-stop readings aren't important to still lens manufacturers. They just want to label the lens with the lowest f-stop possible. That's why they always label with f-stop, because its a number that is equated, not measured.

We already did yours in Comic Sans... Bold.

We also had names lined up for every lens instead of serial numbers.
But it turns out the engraver simply pushes a button to sequence serial numbers... Saves a lot of time and money.
So the names will only be known by those who disassemble the lenses. Or if you ask, I can tell you... ;)

Very much alive - I was at the Duclos shop yesterday and the workbench was covered with 11-16's being assembled and tested.

I will confirm it with you.
Just so everyone here knows, when you email me to be added to the 11-16mm list, it's automatic. I don't reply to the email unless there is a question or a concern.
I assure you the project is in full swing.
