  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

False colour and Edge Highlight - Can I have them both please

I REALLY would want both to work as well. My understanding is that at present it is not possible.

Edge highlight is the single most useful tool for me (after the histogram for exposure).

This would be huge for me as well. I don't use false color at all because edge highlight is so critical for me and I don't have time to manually toggle back and forth between the two. I would probably only use it if it was correct in RAW viewing, which I believe it currently is not.

So make it usable separate from edge highlight and correct in RAW and it would quickly become one of my most used features.

I'm in agreement here. I find these are the two most useful features the camera has and it's annoying to have to choose between them.

Personally I'd love the option for a button that would toggle between the different colour assists.

yes please..i second the request above. Make it possible to separate the highlight and false color in separate shortcut button. I hope RED will make this happen.

Im such a false colour junkie that I haven't even used edge highlight. What does it do? It is a focus assist of some sort? How does one use it?

I live in that mode. It helps you make sure your focus is nailed. It's very accurate but you have to get the hang of it with some practice.

I have edge highlight constantly on as well. The director on a shoot recently asked me why the actors had red eye!

It is subtle but it works. The best way I have found of achieving critical focus.

Yes, please !
I never use false color for that exact reason.

How about assigning a button that would toggle between these 3 modes, Normal (Redspace or REC709), False color and Edge highlight ?

Another vote here too. One of those things I've been meaning to ask for myself for ages... Thanks for posting.

15 days and no attention from red crew...
this isn't good...
This is serious...

Yeahooo...
RED TEAM.... Whats up with no love for this thread ?:mad2:

Why don't you just use false color prior to hitting record to check the exposure levels, once you have the false color you're happy with, switch to edge highlight for focus assist during record? i understand this isnt ideal for all shooting environments, but its a workaround.

I would LOVE this feature.

False Color (the most accurate exposure tool) on one button
Edge Highlight (the most accurate focus tool) on another button.

Edge highlight is a way of asking the RED to display the SHARPEST pixels in the frame you are recording, so if you SEE the Red eyes, you know that the eyes are the sharpest pixels in the frame. It's MUCH more accurate than judging anything in the monitor and I also think it is more accurate than the tape because it's not guessing at all. What ever is sharpest is what you are seeing highlighted. Very good tool.

False Color (Key 05) ) + Magnify (Key 01) + Edge Highlight (Key 02) = Best Rushing game on the set

Edit: I Have only LCD pro (lol), Wiil wait 4 BombEVF

You design a menu structure and then...

You design a menu structure and then...

Perhaps a 4th option under the Viewfinder/Color submenu:
Monochrome/Edge Highlight/False Color/TOGGLE OPTIONS.

Then you can assign a user key to the TOGGLE OPTIONS selection and every time you hit that key it changes from one to the other: Mono to Edge to False to Mono to...

I would find this useful. The monochrome (B&W) look helps me to visualize key to fill ratios, spot subtle problems my eye didn't notice in full color, etc. False color is my favorite exposure tool on the planet. I would use edge highlight during the roll if I could get in and out of it quickly.

Cheers - #19
