Hey you passionate motion picture makers...

I have noticed numerous threads and posts by the Aussie counterparts but little from NZ.
It would be great to catch up with some of the RED owners/frequent users to keep our selves in the loop.

What do you think?

Email me if you are interested, post something on the thread or email me on jae@redreampix.com. Thanks.

Hi Jae,

there are several cameras working here in Auckland at the moment. 2 TV shows, I know of personally, a few TVC's as well. Stop by PVNZ.

Wes

We have RED 525 here at Brandspank, Arch Hill, Auckland, New Zealand
It is used pretty regularly in two distinct areas.
1. TVC's and Titles shoots for Brandspank clients.
2. Library footage shot for Gettyimages.

I know Toybox in Auckland has one, and Rocket has at least one... Scott from Rocket posts on here a bit. I've met quite a few others in production and post houses that have purchased one that they rent out on jobs privately.

We almost purchased one ourselves (2nd hand), but couldn't quite convince the powers that be - they'd heard it was a $17.5k camera, and couldn't understand why it was going to cost $30k for one 2nd-hand with all the bits...

I lived in wellington and around for a year. One of the most beautiful countries in the world and I wish I could work out there for the rest of my life. I will have a camera soon, any production companies out there need a body and a guy? Im willing to do whatever it takes to get back out there.

I mean doesnt anyone have connections at the film commission out there to do some promo work or something? If anyone out there is interested let me know, again like I said, Im willing to do whatever it takes to get out there, and Im familiar with the areas as well.

im working on one of those tv shows wes mentioned.and I just return from a job in samoa shooting with a red kit from rubber monkey.all good no complaints :)

Dammit you guys, I wish I could play around with a Red or even watch you guys use it and see how it works, workflow and what not.

It's hard to get a Job for film/TV entertainment, everything on seek seems to require 2 years of work experience :( or else your a waste of time. Hell, I'd be coffee man if I could stick my feet on a TV set and work my way up from there.

I plan on saving up for the scarlet, so if you guys wanna meet up sometime, we should have a Red day in NZ hahaha. Check out everyones rig once the new line of cameras comes out, would be pretty cool.

Hey Jonathon - where in NZ are you situated? The thing about getting on set work is not looking for a job on a set, but more finding someone who knows a production manager who might need an extra runner for a few days every now and then. Not a regular gig mind you, but a sort of stand in runner. That's a pretty common foot in for those flexible enough to do the job.

Hey Craig,

I'm based in Auckland, yourself? I see where your coming from. I've had no luck with bumping into production managers, haha. My brother has been doing tallent work on the set of Spartacus, an American T.V. series being shot over here. It's a pretty huge production by the sounds of it. Click here if your interested. So I was thinking of submiting myself for tallent work to a modeling agency just so I can be an extra and get on the set of something. Good thing about it is you dont have to be pretty to get a job, so might be worth a shot. If it works I can start offering help to some of the production managers if they need me.

Other then that I just keep my eye on seek and hope I bump into a production manager haha. What kind of work are you doing?

Jono

Jae, you're unusual as you're only 1 of 2 owner-ops that I know trying to make the Red work in the freelance market in Auckland. I don't know if you know Mark? He's put an extraordinary amount of work into making the Red work for him when his peers are running around with PDW-700's.

Exciting times in Auckland at the moment with 2 Baselight Transfer systems installed and ImageZone launching Qtake HD. 2, 2 Red Camera dramas shooting at the same time, with another tele-feature and a NZFC feature about to go, all on Red.

I work for Afterglow (www.afterglow.co.nz) we are a production and post place in Auckland - Although much more post work comes through than production.

If you feel like dropping in and having a chat some time and see what we do, give me an email at craig at afterglow dot co dot nz

Email sent :)

I know right? I have no idea how one meets a production manager, I guess you just have to get lucky...
Granted I have about as much charisma as a toothbrush so I don't really meet people full stop let alone production managers.

Hahaha totally get where your coming from, but just shake off the low charisma man, you kinda need it in this business. Just put it behind you and start talking to people because you might just get lucky.

NZ Bollywood Home Production in RED

NZ Bollywood Home Production in RED

Hiya,

We at Purple Post have a RED ONE and are currently filming NZ's first home-grown Bollywood movie. We've covered Fiji, Napier and Auckland and have another 20% of the shoot left! And then it's down to cracking the Post Production work-flow :-)

Cheers

Sri

Hey All,

We are an Auckland based production company called Blur and Sharpen. We shoot 90% of our stuff on the RED.

Sometimes we rent an HVX off Scott @ Rocket as a B Camera.

If you want to meet a friendly production manager, try Kristian Eek, I haven't seen him for a while but I gather he is working a lot with The Robbers Dog at the moment.

Would love to see some of the RED stuff coming out of NZ.

You can see some of mine here:

www.blurandsharpen.com

Its really shit compression, which I haven't had time to update it (still using old rotten flash settings that make the picture look like its growing hair).

Best
Tim

Hey Guys,

We are more than 90% into shooting our Bollywood Movie in NZ with our RED One. We are called PURPLE POST LTD and the movie is called "Pump Up The Mandali". Shot on 4K, the locations were Auckland, Napier and Fiji!
We have our own Post Production setup and are working our way into cracking the wokrflow :-)

Cheers

Anybody from NZ still around?

I'm seriously considering relocating to New Zealand with my daughter and her husband since I don't want to be left behind. Is there room for one more Red One? We're in the talking stages but I'd like to learn as much as I can about opportunities in Aukland and Wellington areas.

Cheers
