  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

the Breakout box is if you want to drive a 4k display or a 4k projector.

But "Plays full quality realtime 4K to 4K monitor or projector from DVI output" is in the description of the card.

I guess I won't need the breakout box. Thanks...now get that store to take my money. I'm hungry.

Dual Link DVI doesn't support 4k all by itself.. but i can see the confusion, Brent will clear that up.

Thanks. And just to clarify (I know things are changing real-time with this and will as the SDK gets out there):

Is there any current way to get an output to an HD monitor when this ships? Are we locked in to viewing 4k files real-time only on our Cinema Displays or is there some sort of real-time downconverter that will allow us to take the HD SDI out to an HD Plasma monitor?

Thanks!

Brent-Can you or someone answer my question about playing out via HDSDI to HD? Out of the box when it ships, will it be able to do this?

Thanks! My order is in, too.

Kevin, the only info I have is in the product descriptions in the online store. Deanan or Jarred would have to provide further details...

Also, RED ROCKET orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-serve basis - NOT by camera serial number or delivery date.

HD output is supported.

Question about power cable.

Question about power cable.

"Mac users will need to purchase MAC PCIe POWER CABLE as well."

I was planning on installing an NVidia GeForce GTX 285 card in my Mac Pro, (previous gen. Mac Pro 3.2GHz "Harpertown"), but the card requires two powers cables.

I'll look into the power cable issue but in the meantime how many watts will the RR need from the power supply?

Will the RR and GTX 285 be able to be installed at the same time?

I have placed a deposid as weel..

how do we know what "serial Number" i have ordered...?

As you can imagine i ma kind of scary to wait too long...But i have ordered like 10 minutes after that the link is up so should be no problem right?

Thanks

Will there be a DisplayPort variant for those of us with the new 10-bit monitors with Displayport interfaces?

The Rocket will dump output up to 2K out through your system graphics card, so that should take care of it right there. Otherwise, I don't see why a compliant 10bit signal couldn't be output from the DVI port to be used with an HDMI cable that could drive a HDMI 1.3 display with "deep color".

Or perhaps that's a function of the breakout box, since the box has HDMI outs, but I don't see why the breakout box would be necessary for this function.

PCIe power cable

PCIe power cable

OK, I guess I'd like some clarification on the PCIe power cable. I'm assuming this is the same thing as the power cable that accompanies many video cards that require more power than the PCIe slot alone can supply.

If so, why is it only listed for Mac users? Can we get power requirements / specs for the card so that those assembling a new PC will know if supplementary power is required? Or am I missing something?

is the red rocket expected to run much faster on snow leopard because the new OS will use the GPUs of the video card to accelerate CPU intensive processes, versus running on the current version of leopard?

I would think it won't make a difference. The card will debayer footage and pass it back. From there it's all about what the software does.

If the software performance improves then yes, but nothing to do with the hardware.

Again, just an assumption here.
