  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Rocket update...

If RR makes Color realtime [assuming you have the processor strength to handle the grades you're applying in realtime], there's your Scratch Lite. :)

Maybe RR is like, the new, Scratch for the MAC, but if FCP or Color, PRemier or AE could use it as an RR's HD-SDI outs then what would be the point of any other video card?

They are also using GPU speed and CPU speed to accelerate the r3d, much like a Scratch system does, so maybe it's a great $4500.oo solution.

Here is the card, build the system you want, use the software you want. That would be best.

David - the main reason to still have a pro-audio-video I/O card (such as AJA/BMD) would be to connect to professional decks. If Your workflow is purely based on RED acquisition and out-going media only - You won't need these cards. The only question remains whether the RED ROCKET will include pro audio...

DPX/Quciktime render

DPX/Quciktime render

Am I missing something but will rocket speed up the internal rendering times with a fast RAID attached and high end PC/MAC?

In other words DPX's, QT's, etc... rendered faster

With enough system throughput, DPX transcodes should be faster than realtime... As far as I can tell.

I suppose that 2K DPX transcodes should be near 4x realtime? Or does it not work that way?

Rs422

Rs422

I didn't see any mention of RS422 on the Red Rocket Card, so would you have to use a USB RS422 controller to get frame accurate lay back to tape? or am I missing something about RS422 on this card?

Not if it has to "Go through" a 4k debayer first.

Only if it is a Real Red Rocket. A Red Rocket with a Red Camera on it. :happyhappy:

what does this statement mean? I really want to know!

what does this statement mean? I really want to know!

True, but there's no major difference between half high and full high at 2K.

what does this statement mean? I really want to know! So I should not waste time doing a full high transcode for my 1080P finnish from a 4k 16:9 red r3d file?

thanks

That's one of the things we'll test but bandwidth is severely limited. It'll be interesting to see if it provides a viable/useful workflow.

Hopefully. Maybe if the bandwith isn't fast enough you guys make a Red Rocket for 4K workflow and a Red Rocket Lite for us laptop users with realtime 3K or 2K (I can't even get 2K out of this MBP).
