I used to come to the Scarlet forums, and even Red before that, to stormchase the camera that was going to give me an affordable cinema tool in place of my video tool. It was fun to speculate, dream, and drool.
Then the D90 came out. Now I don't have to keep tabs on the Scarlet cause the dslr's are affordable, incognito, and low-light heaven. They aren't perfect, but they are enough for now, and will only get better.
I still hope the Scarlet is too drool over when it is available, and will no doubt be interested to see what sample footage will look like, but now I just don't feel like I have to find a way to have one. That dopamine rush is gone, which is probably a good thing cause I probably wouldn't have been able to afford it.
I also know that the accessories I have for the D90 will translate to the next generation of Nikon (D400 or whatever), so I don't feel like I am trapping myself with gear that I will have to dump.
EDIT: I also think there is an advantage with coming out with these dlrs early. Alot of people are learning how to shoot with film lenses for the first time, and invest in lenses that will affect their future decision for whatever upgrade, since they will want to use the same lenses. Since I got a Nikon,
I have been investing in Nikon glass(for video and still). It will be harder to rationalize losing alot of my initial investment by having to invest in all new gear.
One advantage that the Scarlett really had going for it before the dslr's came out was that it was going to be the first cinema-type camera product to buy after shooting with more traditional video cameras. Now people are using the more affordable dslr's already, so that gap has been lessened.
