  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Pro lenses at NAB?

:head_explode: I don't really see how Red is being Slimy in any way. All they're doing is giving early reservation holders the chance to step in line before they open it up to the general public. I think that's pretty damn cool personally. It reminds me of the glory days when Red announced the $1,000 deposits on cameras. Nobody says you have to throw money down. All Red is offering is a secure place in line for those that wish to purchase these lenses before the hoards start showing up after images get released... which I'm still waiting for...

I hope the prime set is wonderful. And once I can see them, then I may put my money down. But losing all place and priority because you weren't willing to buy on faith - is a slap or mildly coercive. I would love to hear from shooters who've actually used them on the field. Is there anyone out there who has shot some real footage in a production situation?

I think you need to understand one crucial aspect of Red. Why can they make a lens that competes with the Master Primes for a fraction of the price? Part of the answer is no wholesalers, no dealers - direct internet based sales - in short - this community. The great demand this creates has to be managed somehow, and I think Red has done an admirable job of satisfying the full time pros and the aspiring film makers in this group. Not perfect, but pretty amazing considering the raft of new products being created. So relax a bit - what you are complaining about is part of what makes it all possible.

PS try finding a company where your complaint is answered by the CEO in about an hour:)

LOL...no kidding.

When I was at the Reduser event Jim brought up a great point. How long do you think it would take to get a Master Prime fixed/replaced vs a RPP? People that have dealt with Red know the answer to this one.
 
I was really impressed by the lens comparison, it kinda blew me away... the crazy thing about the test is the price of the entire kit. After leaving the booth I sorta felt like something was too good to be true.

It's one of those things you just have to see for yourself. Once it's in front of you, it becomes pretty obvious. As someone who left in the session before me. A no brainer.
