  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nice, I was big into Desert combat the mod for bf1942.

Recently I have been playing tonnes of QuakeLive, although I love the teamplay and speed of Enemy Territory Quake Wars and the Wolfienstien series...
 
kidrobot, maybe i will take a look at that BF2 mod. I think I have an advanced version of BF2 (Special Forces?) I bought like 6 months ago but have barely played. I just didn't care for it much. 2142 is so much cleaner and smoother. can i install the mod over my BF2?

I'm in desperate need for a good new online FPS. things have gotten so bad i've gone back to CS Source in recent weeks, but all i do is sneak around and knife people on deathmatch servers.. hahhaaha.

i've been thinking of checking out the clancy jet fighter game HAUX.
 
All you need is the BF2 disc, then update BF2 to 1.41, download Reality core and maps file from realitymod.com. Install. The mod will setup with its own shortcuts and won't touch the vanilla setup.

As I said, this has a really steep curve, so forget everything about how BF2 works.
Some of the major changes:
No minimap (on screen when on foot)
Basic map for navigation with compass, the little dot no longer indicates your direction.
No kill messages.. score board has a delay also, so you won't be able to check that way if you got the guy. So no "X killed Y" or stupid crap like that.
You need a (limited)kit for anything outside the basic infantry classes, so no teams with 14 snipers each.
All new models, sounds, maps and so on.
Some new factions, Insurgents (with civilians), Taliban and now Russian forces.
Getting shot/injured is really bad, you won't shake it off lightly.
Squad leaders can set rally points (spawns) and other things can be built also.

Please read at least some of the PR wiki/manual, link on the site. And for the love of God, don't jump out of airborne choppers. No more chutes. Really funny seeing that happen :)

Always join a squad and get a head set. Most servers auto kick if you don't join. It's always a good idea to tell your squad you're new. Most people are ok and will help newbies. You will learn quickly how to recognize good, fun squads from the bad ones. I never stay in squads where people are all quiet or the squad leader suddenly pops up with a sniper kit when he should have the officer's kit (for rally points).

If you put the time in, this is hands down the best team play FPS. The BF2 engine is getting old, but it's the only one that can have combined arms battles, has built in squads and has huge maps. One of my most fondest memories was calling in F-16s with a laser designator to take out two tanks approaching our position. I was on a hill in the middle of this huge desert and our transport was a wreck. It was awesome :)

i've had some insane moments on 2142.... One time I shot down another helo, bailed out of mine at 2000 feet right as it burst into flames, then shot a guy driving a jeep below me in the head while parachuting, then stole his jeep, and immediately backed over his two friends who'd just bailed out of the jeep, then blew up a tank and knifed the tank gunner as he jumped out... all in about 15 seconds.. hahahaha. i literally feel out of my chair laughing and was rolling on my carpet LMAO.

unfortunately EA is the most retarded company out there making it impossible to install without having to conjure up some magic

I also love 2142.... My friends and I used to play it the last 14 months or so on PC. (dont worry I work only on Macs).
It's one of the coolest games ever. Teamplay and egoshooter in one. Very very fun to play and you can bring in some of the real army tactics we learned over the last 14 years.
The same goes for call of duty4.

But as you said, lets play games and stop doing the real thing.

Its free to play, takes a few minutes to install, and years to master, and still even the pros are constantly evolving and improving.

BF has a lot of great strat that has a slower pace...
 
I think a 2142 Red Clan would be good!

now i just need a decent freekin driver for the 8800GTX!!

Maybe we can find someone with a Ventrillo server and do things the right way. No need for our own sever, but being able to communicate on 2142 is the key for blowing the Titan right out of the sky time and time again... muahahahaah!

I'm actually more of a DOD guy myself (since the very first beta, ladies!), and more recently, L4D...Best. Game. Ever!
