I shot this feature back in '04, long before RED was announced, so I hope you'll not mind me posting this here. It has finally found distribution and being a semi-period film noir, the long wait has thankfully not dated the material; although it was shot on a previous generation F900, I'm still happy with the look (could it have looked better if shot on today's cameras...sure, probably... but irrelevant!)

Please view the trailer here:

The Perfect Sleep

It will play for a week at the Laemmele Sunset 5, starting this Friday the 13th. It then plays at the Quad Cinema in NYC starting Friday the 20th. No word yet on home video release dates.

Opening night went well.

Excerpt of review from iFMagazine.com:

"The cinematography, in a word, is simply stunning. I know that’s two words, but that’s how surprisingly breathtaking they are. Style is the word of the day. True to its noir roots, every scene THE PERFECT SLEEP is dark and moody, exquisitely thought out to deliver dramatic punch."

Very nice Charles!

Did you do the steadicam work or the whole cinematography? Looking at the trailer I see, yes, the typical color inconsistencies, patina and feel of the F900 when pushed to be "cinematic", but other than that, the cinematography overcomes all that and calls attention to itself in a very obvious way. The lighting, the staging, the angles, the "feel", all are top notch and give you that feeling of "you're not supposed to get this look on something that has not found distribution for 5 years". It looks GREAT! Would love to watch it when and if it comes out on DVD.

I could have told you that 3 years ago when I saw pieces of it at Unified.

Very nice.

The trailer looks fantastic...I am a complete sucker for noir styled films...is that Roselyn Sanchez (it looks uncannily like her if not).

Who lit and shot the film? Would love to see it though...if it runs anywhere in the UK or has any kind of release keep me posted.

VERY NICE!!

Thanks all (and yes, I did DP the film).

LA folks, go see it in the theater! The filmout looks great and it is the way a movie like this is meant to be seen. It only has a few days left at the Laemmele Sunset 5. New Yorkers, it starts on Friday at the Quad Cinema and runs for a week. Then it gets a bit murky--I think Portland is next and maybe Chicago.

There are plans for a UK engagement but I don't have any details. Sadly nothing yet for "the continent".

And it will indeed come out on DVD, but sadly, at this point no Blu-Ray.

Hey Charles,

I actually worked with Jeremy on a music video he was producing a couple months back, about the same time TPS was playing at Quad Cinemas here in NYC...unfortunately I was tied up (well, and Gary Oldman urged me not to go see it), but the trailer looked fantastic...incredible camera work and visual design. Really, fantastic work. Will be sure to Netflix the film. If you're ever back in New York and need a hand, I'd be happy to see you in action.

Cheers,
Clint

Thanks Clint, yes I was talking to Jeremy during his NYC stint. Thanks for the kind words. I'm disappointed that the DVD didn't come out on Blu-Ray but what can you do. We are hoping to see the movie get onto HDNet or similar.
