I'm guessing that this is why Gates wants to halt production on the F-22 soon. These new robotic planes will probably be able to mop the floor with manned aircraft soon enough - and at 1/3 the cost. Pretty soon wars will be fought by ultra-fast-reflexed 12 year old gamers recruited by armies, sitting at Xbox consoles. And who says there's no future in gaming?

Will future armies be able to taunt each other over voice chat: "You got schooled noob! Uninstall!" :head_explode: :head_explode: :head_explode:

Or better yet, instead of fighting wars at all we can just "settle things" on Xbox live. Think of all the savings in money and lives.

Soon enough these will be flying the skies of America, scanning, and recording the population, in defense of civil liberties tracking evil terrorists and vicious criminals, and enemies of the state (hippies, people that don't agree with the government, journalists, politicians, you)...

i think i spotted a few of these over Arizona near the Mexico border already...

I think you'll find advanced missile technology/satellite tracking will remove the need for planes at all. And now we have the ram-jet technology for extra speed..

They're already long range and accurate enough, if you don't mind blowing up a few civilian villages and schools, like your American puppet masters did when the "intelligence agencies" thought Osama was staying in a bed and breakfast in one, on the border of Pakistan, and then atomised it completely in an act of unjustified mass murder) I know, the British dropped cluster bombs on Basra, but then they're c**ts too..

I naively thought special forces going in was the slightly better option, apparently not..

Its funny actually, we thought there were burglars in next doors house the other night, so we poured petrol through the letter box and set fire to it, just to make sure we didn't get burgled too.. etc etc

Maybe new political leaders will lead to missiles being replaced with more talking, though its doubtful. Then again, thats probably what leads to wars.

Can someone please go dis-arm Tom, or do I need to fly to the states with my spud gun and a large King Edward..

heh. hey, i'm calling for the end of all physical wars. why not just cut out the middle man and fight all our wars on Xbox Live? imagine the savings!

of course, in this scenario sweden and south korea would be "superpowers."

I'm still trying to figure out how much of ronxs' post is meant seriously...

certain parts are obvious... others not.

lol!.. the bit about the bed and breakfast, i made up (but not the village/school/high altitude bombing of/200 dead children etc).. and the bit about setting fire to our neighbours house, was a metaphor for the logic used to justify such actions.. everything else..well you're an adult, go figure.. but I'll add, the biggest wars are waged using a secret weapon called the IMF/World Bank.. so yes, I get Toms humour, but felt the need to point out that all war is waged by ignorant racsists at the top of the chain..

Reminds me of the Original Star Trek program where the Enterprise visits a world that is at war with a neighboring planet. To preserve the buildings and landscaping, it had been "talked out" by the politicians on both sides that a computer would decide where a "computer generated" enemy missile hit. The blast radius would be calculated by the computer and the citizenry caught in this area would be rounded up and disposed of cleanly.

This is what happens when you take the "talking" too far. War is HELL! That is why it should be avoided.

Technology has been advancing the cause of war and vice versa since the first anthropods picked up sticks and hit each other with them, progressing to throwing rocks, javelins etc.

Einstein said that: "So long as there is man, there will be wars."

Plato said: "Only the dead have seen the end of war."

What did they know? They knew the positively staggering ability of men to rationalize their actions. "They believe differently than I. I am right, therefore they must be wrong. Let us kill them and take their territory" and on it goes.........

Oh, okay, that's what I thought.

So the bits about disarming Tom and talking things out with people that want us dead simply because of the fact that we're not the same as them, those are parts you were serious about.

Thanks for clearing that up.

In some ways, the old Greek texts say almost all there ever was or ever will be to say.

Of course, I'm a big believer in what Carl Sagan has to say on this topic:

I disagree with Sagan, he doesn't seem to realise we're intelligent preditory animals who, in all known history, have never had a period without war

I think we'll just fight over control of the moon (it is the high ground after all..), then Mars etc.. until eventually an asteroid/gamma burst etc kills us all. In the meanwhile, welcome to bloodbath earth..

Huh? Tom concluded in his last sentence that if unmanned drones were used which were controlled by computer consoles, why not cut the physical war and exclusively keep to virtual ones? (It was no serious posting anyway, if I`m correct...Tom? ;-)

Yes, Carl said it well.

Tom, Have you read the book Carl Sagan co-wrote with his Wife; Ann Dryun?: "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors"

Good read. Helps explain who we are and why.

Pretty much, but you forget history in that simplified verision. Usually I find its western folk (uk/europe, hell.. America even) who historically have been abusive, controlling, murdering, raping, stealing from poorer nations, and generally suspicious or downright racist towards people who are different than themselves, don't you think, or are they teaching us a load of bullshit in history class? I must have missed the propoganda benefits of those lies they feed us with.. Hell yeah, lets talk, maybe say sorry and pay compensation.. Its not as fashionable anymore, so we need to distance ourselves from the acts we perpertrate, via long range weapons. In short WE STARTED IT!!

If you compare the number of deaths caused by poverty every week, too often a direct result of unfair global trading (something the US and others are especially good at btw, as they make up the rules..), and debt, you'd need a lot of terrorist acts to level the score, daily in fact. I think its important to not loose perspective. People get angry when their loved ones die. Even Jesus was classed as a terrorist by the Romans, even Ghandi..

For example, Americans are ideally placed in America IMO..but, if you stick a load of them in military bases in Saudi Arabia, for example, you may have problems, especially if the population there don't like the dictators they're propping up. Why is America there btw I forget.. you need to talk to the Bush family about this, I hear they're real close with the Bin Laden family..

Then there was the British empire before.. divide and rule, opium wars, Winston Churchil gassing the Kurds years before Saddam/inventing concentration camps etc etc etc etc etc infinitum

I was joking about disarming Tom also, my UK legal spud gun might not cut the mustard if firearms are needed..

Just guessing.

Just guessing here but judging from Tom's avatar: "firearms WILL be needed"

Never bring a spud gun to a real firefight..... :yikes:

Well, here's the problem we're faced with here:

These people that we're talking about, the fundamentalists anyway, they don't want to talk to us. Their preferred method of justice is to kill every last one of us. They say so themselves. They lump me into a group based on their perception of history. I've never done anything to them, but they still want me dead. They don't want to reason with me.

Please don't misunderstand me, though. I'm not saying we should just kill them and be done with it. If you're a part of a group that thinks killing innocent people is the only way to bring about justice in the world, and you can't be reasoned with, then you had better believe we're going to sick our shiny new predator planes on you.

:) You like how I brought us back on topic? I thought it was artful

I actually made that video I linked to a few years ago. IMO, Sagan's books -- all of them -- are required reading for humanity.

Ronx, I think what Carl is saying is that one-world government, or even better yet, GFTO this rock, is our best bet to survive technology.

But that's a whole 'nother subject! :couch:

Yeah, I met Carl Sagan years ago at a SETI conference in Oakland, CA. It was just before the Schumaker_Levy comet event so was about 15 years ago. Quite something to shake hands with the man. He is responsible for many peoples understanding of science at least at some level. He had the uncommon ability to describe some pretty heavy science in laymans terms and also make it interesting at the same time.

sir, with all due respect..never underestimate an Englishman armed with knowledge, and a single potato!

Obviously I would only bring the potato :couch:
