  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Pro Prime set FAQs

Please note that I updated correct resolution specs at the beginning of this thread. Greater than 100 line PAIRS/mm at the center.

Jim

Does it meant that the edge resolution of 25mm lens performs as well as edge resollution of 50mm or 85mm lens!? can't be?

Or all the specs are for the worse case scenario of 25mm lenses?

>5. Center resolution is greater than 100 (lines pairs/mm). Edge (5K) is greater than 63 (lines pairs/mm)

Andrew

Hey Jim, is there any chance of offering a 25-35-50-85 set for right now at a reduced price. I ask because I rather have a set with an 18mm lens rather than with a 100mm lens. If I need a longer mm, I might buy it in the future, but right now 90% of the stuff I shoot on the RED is with an 18mm lens. It's just slightly frustrating to have to buy one lens, when I rather hold onto the money and spend it on a much more needed one when you release it later.

Just asking...:)

Matthew

I am drooling just for the 100mm, Matt. Buy the whole set and I will help you out getting rid of the 100mm.

Just answering...

Jim/Jarred,

I'm looking forward to purchasing a set of primes for my Red One (3306) but I'm curious- will you be requiring payment in full to secure the set, or will it be a small deposit and payment when the lenses ship?

I ask because I am arranging financing for a number of pieces of equipment, the primes and the 18-85 included. I'd be able to put down a 10-15% deposit this week coming, but not the full value.

Thanks for the information, and thanks for doing what you do. You guys have made my and my team's little filmmaker dreams come true! </sappiness>

When the website opens up again to take orders, you will require the normal 10% deposit to secure your place in line, like usual.

Hey Andrew...are you coming to the REDuser party Wed? I would be happy to show you personally the 25mm lens on the projector so you can come to your own conclusions.

Jarred, unfortunately I am out of the country the whole next week:-(
Though, I am sending few RED spies there.
From the sound of it you (RED) are going to blow the MPs out of the water…
>anomalous dispersion glass for maximum chromatic aberration correction< !!??

I am a projector guy and this one was mentioned here too many times.

Jarred, Does that mean for those who cant attend NAB will need to wait for website to take orders ? Any solution for those who cant attend NAB ? Does third party person allow to put any bookings on behalf red owners at NAB ? Any solution ? Thanks

Wrapping up a 48 hour film for festival in Vegas tonight...might as well swing by the RED party and get my hands on the new glass! Look forward to catching up with the usual suspects! See you guys and gals there. Best

"50mm, 85mm and 100mm weigh about 2.1kg
25mm and 35mm weigh about 2.8kg"

kg ?? can't relate to it ...
where's the good ole lbs/oz ??

Hi everyone, Jim and Jarred,

Admittedly I am down the list on the Red One pecking order (6000). I am, however, ready to pay in full for the set. A little unclear as to when the prime set would become available to someone in my position (ballpark), or if I should find stand in glass until it's my time. Want to avoid throwing away money on other used lenses that won't hold value and renting again and again.

Thanks, and super job on the lenses. - Jon

a fair system for the worldwide RED community

We expect to have the 1st couple of hundred sets out by June and all the orders from NAB filled by late Summer or early Fall (depending on how many orders we receive this week). 1st sets get delivered this week.

Jim

I'm probably misreading this, but this sounds worryingly like those at NAB get to jump the queue. I think quite a few of us have been patiently waiting to place an order when the prime sets disappeared from the online store some while back.

I'd desperately like to place an order right now.

Thank you.

The rest of the world apologises:Yawn:

2.1kg = 4lbs, 10oz
2.8kg = 6lbs, 3oz

I'd desperately like to place an order right now (or months ago -- we've been waiting four months for an EVF and four 16GB cards).

Please find a fairer system. I'm not about to hop on a trans-Pacific plane flight to Los Vegas to get into the queue.

Thank you.

Agree

Also agree. I have no problem with early camera buyers getting in line but getting to Vegas isn't possible for all of us. I just hope the delivery schedule doesn't blow out too far for those of us not in the Vegas neighbourhood.

Agree too. Being several thousand miles and several thousand dollars away fom Las Vegas...

Our lenses are designed very specifically for the type and placement of our OLPF and microlens array. All these other programs could have benefitted from the information, but everyone was apparently working in secret. The net result will be that we will likely have a decided advantage in optical performance when matched to a Mysterium family sensor... just because we had info that no one else asked for.

Jim

He he he :sifone:

Not saying I don't believe you Jim, but what if they ask now? Are you really going to share? I guess they might not believe you, afraid to R&D their money away following a lie, ha ha, that would be hilarious. They must be afraid of you, thinking you are an evil mastermind out to take over their world. Do you pet a cat while smoking cigars? You should let Jarred e-mail them a pic of that.

just wondering on when the expected delivery of other focal lengths would be, and what focal lengths REDs is planning on having in the RPP series over time??

Chris,

Here is the release order:

25mm T1.8
35mm T1.8
50mm T1.8
85mm T1.8
100mm T1.8

4-6 months later

18mm T1.8
21mm T1.8
65mm T1.8
120mm T1.8
140mm T1.8

couple of months after that...

14mm (TBD)

They will be sold as a set at 1st. All 5 lenses for under $20K ($4K each). All 6 lenses (add the Pro 300mm) for under $25K. Later this year they will sell the primes individually for under $5K each, except the Pro 300mm (T2.9) which is $5950 (available now at red.com/store).

Hi Jarred: Is there a specific time/date when the site will up and ready to take orders or should we keep checking throughout the week? Thanks and keep up the great work.

Nick.
