  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ER

Wow... that's great.... the look of that program was deep and creamy.

The production folks appear to have made significant effort to match the previous ER episode look with the last RED episodes with their grade.

It's apparent to me that there's simply NO WAY to criticize the RED based on footage post-grade and encoded for broadcast. If there's some observable deficiency, you HAVE to to know what the workflow was before you can lay it at the feet of the camera...

Looked great Brook.. excellent work. Thanks for giving us the heads-up about the episodes.

hehe... I've been noticing that I actually like my work better *after* it's been compressed for cable/sattelite. All of the little mistakes that were driving me crazy vanish into the boxy oblivion. :D

But yes. Judging any footage after it's gone through a full broadcast pipeline is usually a pretty hopeless endeavour.

I think the greatest compliment is that I can't tell the difference between ER PreRED and PostRED. "It looked so good I couldn't tell they used RED." ;)

I appreciate the compliments, guys. The camera department on ER is truly something to behold.

The interesting thing is that so much of the look of the show happens in the grade. I don't think we clipped any non-obvious highlight [bright window in the Carter Center in the finale, open fluorescent globes] the entire time. The only time something ever burned out on a person or a gown would be in surgery. All of the trauma stuff [including those bright yellow trauma gowns] and the sheets of the gurneys underneath the lights in the curtains... that's all in the grade.

That was indeed a great final shot to the series!
