It´s been more than 15 months since we shot this shortfilm and i´m happy to announce that at last it´s fully finished!

You can find some information about the shooting and first experiences in this old thread: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4910
We decided to change the old title for a better international distribution, but don´t get confused, it´s the same movie.

You can take a look at some images from the short, as well as behind the scenes photos and deleted scenes at the official mini site http://www.uyuni.eu.

The WMV 1080p24 video file looks terrific so i recommend you to download it instead of the QT version. Direct LINK: www.macgregor.autoecstasy.com/uyuni/video/english.wmv

I want to give thanks to all the people involved on the shooting at the Boneville Salt Flats: Greg, Mike, Kira, Jack, Pedro, Juliana, Blair, Brook, Robert, Dave, Prell and Matt.
We were a tiny crew but we had a great time working together.

Some technical information about the project:

We shot this with Blair´s old R1 no.019 (rest in peace). I think the camera build was something like 8 or 9. At this time we could not even review the takes on camera. There was no sound recording capabilities and most of the nice feautures we have now did not exist.

Lenses used were Zeiss Superspeeds and the RED 300mm. We had major problems with IR contamination as you can see on the deleted scenes at the Uyuni website. This was hard to clean in postproduction and one of the reasons why post took so much time.
Almost 80% of the shots have some kind of VFX, either because we had to remove C-stands, stabilize the dolly shots or match the skies. So we worked the entire movie at 2K by 2K DPXs (anamorphic 2:1).

The edit was done in Sony Vegas with rendered proxy files in QT jpeg (by that time Redcine did not exist), the conform took place in AE and the grading in Scratch 4.1. I´ve never spent so much time grading anything in my life.

We did a 5.1 sound mixing (with DTS and Dolby Digital encoding for theaters). We´ve printed a 35mm scope copy with Arrilaser at 2K, but i´m not very happy with the result.

Again, nice work on this film. Any chance we can see the full version?

Classic Macgregor! White on white everywhere.

At first the acting put me off a bit, felt a bit tentative and unrelaxed, but then by the end of the trailer I was feeling it a little more.

I want to see the whole thing now, to see in more detail what the dynamics of the relationship are...
( i seem to remember some sort of rape from the early rushes... I keep thinking of 'hows that gonna play out..' )

---edit.. ooh , email me the link too!

You didn't liked because it wasn't as you were see it in your scratch grade sessions or for a different reason?

Great work! Actually I thought the acting was very good - the trailer doesn't really get into much of the actors' nitty gritty much.

Gorgeous cinematography!

Cheers,

Paul

Can I also have a link emailed please? I'm a huge fan of your previous work back from the G35 days. :)

i would love to see the movie ! im also a huge fan of your stuff i watched the trailer and im realy interested how the story plays out.

Sorry guys, i cannot be sending the short to everyone that sends me a PM, it´s just too many people. Enjoy the teaser and delted scenes meanwhile, go to a film festival were it´s screening or wait for the internet release in a bit of time.
best,
Mac

ok man.. you're right.. but on the reasons about you dislike the 35 mm print you didn't post why either.. or should me ask you a pm too? :)

Oh, that´s easy.
The film print is soft, it has a very low resolution. Although the contrast is preserved (whit and black points) the colour palette has been lost. The saturated colours are not in there.
Also, because the short has white everywhere, you can see disgusting dust everywhere even after just two passes.
