Hello Red Users-
Though Red Digital Cinema will not be hosting a booth at NAB this year, your Red projects will still be seen throughout the show floor in the 2009 NAB Red Show Reel.

EXHIBITION
We are currently gathering content to create the 4th installment of Red's show reel, which will be mastered and projected in 4K & 2K at various booths from April 20th - 23rd at the Las Vegas Convention Center. We would love to include as much of the RedUser community's work in the reel and are accepting shots from March 16th - March 27th to go into the cut.

THEME
The theme of this Reel is "story telling." Most of the world already knows Red One images are phenomenal, so we are going to focus on the art of the story as well as gorgeous images to convey what Red Users have been up to for the past 18 months.

IMAGES
There are two ways in which you can contribute. One is to deliver up to 5 MOS shots that can be stand-alone or sequenced shots that represent compelling imagery. -The more unique, the better. The second way to is to deliver up to a 10-shot sequence that represents a poignant moment in a longer-form project. This should include synch-sound and could be a single and reverse along with an establishing shot. These moments should be all about emotions; fear, excitement, sadness, humor, etc. -In other words, we want to show off your "Go ahead, make my day..." moment.

ARTISTRY
The main reason we will require R3D sources is because we are making a 4K DCP for large-screen projection. That said, a number of projects have already been onlined and color corrected at various resolutions, aspect ratios, color spaces, and debayer qualities.
Because it is our goal to insure the integrity and artistry already put into these projects is preserved, we wish to best accommodate any unique requests and/or looks that were originally intended for the piece. If you can deliver reference stills from the grade, a Quicktime reference movie and/or grading notes, that will help us match your desired look in 4K.

DELIVERY
Since this Show Reel will be offlined and reconformed to 4K for DCP mastering, we require R3D source files to be delivered on a FireWire drive, USB drive or DVD-R. If you wish to deliver the files on drives, they will be shipped back to you at our expense within 24 hours.

All media should be shipped to:
PlasterCITY Digital Post
6500 Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA, 90028
Attention: Red Reel 400

RIGHTS
After its debut in Las Vegas, this 4th installment of the Red Reel will be screened around the world as well as encoded for online viewing at various compression schemes. Because of this, it is critical that all reserved rights are waived for inclusion of the reel. A short list of credits will follow the reel, so please include the Production Company and the names of the Producer, Director and DP with your clips for crediting.

Once again, thank you to everyone who has contributed to the past 3 Reels. We are looking forward to involving everyone we can and showcasing your work at NAB and beyond!

Hey Michael. I have some great stuff from Burning Man (actually on the drive you guys still have there) plus a bunch of things all over Europe, China, India etc.

Cail-
Great questions! We would absolutely take an EDL. Better yet, feel free to deliver a Final Cut Pro Project file or Avid Bins file and we can go from the source offline.
Audio would be great - but since this will be a composite amongst other pieces, we will need any printmasters with M&E stems. It is likely that one thread of music will play underneath all the pictures.
michael

by stand-alone shots, does this include the accompanying audio? for instance, I have some documentary footage of a soldier who lost his leg in Iraq and is part of an organization that helps people who have lost limbs re-integrate into doing adaptive adventure sports (ice climbing, mountain biking, etc.), but without one or two of his audio bites, you would not be able, necessarily, to put this together simply with images. Will you be playing diegetic audio? or is this image only?

Justin-
Looking forward to it! Thanks!
Meryem-
No worries, Whatever you need creatively to make it work is perfect. So send whatever bytes you have and even an Avid/FCP project to give us instructions as to how it should all come together.
thanks!
michael

Sure thing, Cail-
We would just need to insure we'll need the separated stem tracks with music/effects and dialogue NOT all mixed together.
Because this reel will have a consistent thread of music, we will need to be able to separate your songs with the one in the reel. So the #1 thing we are looking for is dialogue by itself. Printmasters are probably overkill for this, but just in case someone wanted us to use them, I'm happy to oblige.

Also-other RedUser footage contributors:
We all know the Red is capable of great work with over-cranking. So we're thinking about having a small section dedicated to slow motion.
If you have slow-motion shots that are really compelling, we'd love to have some of those as well. 3K is preferred since this reel will be screened in 4K, but we're happy to work with 2K shots as well.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I've got some footage of a pretty amazing car crash shot with 4 REDS that I might be able to contribute.

Totten!
Thanks, Michael! That's great.
Looking forward to seeing the footage. Drop it off or ship it anytime!

Just reviewing a feature for suitable sequences - is coarse language an issue? Also, how solid is the 10-shot limit - I have a couple that might go to 12 or 13...

Cail-
10 shots would be great, so we have something to work with, but it's just a suggestion.
If you have more shots that work, then that sounds great.
Language, well I'll leave that up to Ted when we cut it together, so send what you have and we'll work with it.
thanks!

Finally; are bare SATA drives okay or must they be in an enclosure?

Hi Cail,

I am helping Michael and Ted on the reel. Bare SATA drives are totally acceptable we have external housings we can put them into.

If anyone is interested in submitting footage for this upcoming reel, time is getting very short and very few have sent in files.

Can we upload files to our FTP?

Can we upload files to our FTP?

Are you guys accepting files that have been uploaded to an ftp? Or will that be too much bandwidth for you guys to deal with? I have a few overcranked college sports shots that may interest you.

David-
I'll give the FTP download a try - so let me know the information (email me at michael@plastercity.com) and I'll start the download.
Thanks!
michael
