We originally set out designing our prime lenses with a very high resolution target, extremely well corrected and a T1.8 target. Because we weren't sure if the final production units would make the aperture target, we advertised T1.9 to give ourselves some elbow-room.

I'm happy to announce that every single lens hit the original goal... the 25mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm are all true T1.8.

This may be a small thing, but I hope it points to our effort to be conservative in our announcements.

I am very proud of the lens team and what they have accomplished.

demand is high, or high demand

Wow, thanks. This is the kind of thinking that has made me a fan of the RED Digital Cinema brand since I first became exposed to it after NAB '06 (wow, time flies). Can't wait to see these lenses in person!

NICE, VERY NICE

Thanks for pushing the envelope....again & again!!!

That is great news. . .

What an amazing company - sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime team of brilliant people doing wonderful things.

Bravo!

(psst. - need a software architect?) :)

Normally I would spill expletives in joy, however since this is a public forum where decorum is observed I smugly say "well played team RED... well played!"

It appears like there is going to be a lot of prime lens competition soon. Very good for all us stock market poor filmmakers.

Sorry for being totally off topic but Finner, I'm laughing out loud at both your pic and quotes!

And by the way, congrats Jim and RED team for this awesome accomplishment. How long have you been in the lens business? And sunglasses lenses business doesn't count!

There, I'm on topic again (how did I do that...?).

Cool stuff the past few days. Can't wait to see the primes.

Any word on their coverage? I know that they won't do 8-perf full-frame, but will they cover 18mm x 24mm? Not high on my list, more curious than anything else. Even the S35's 15mm x 30mm size is unusual... will the primes cover the full sensor?
