  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ergo...

Actually, I have to agree with you. Looks a bit "boxy". I think my RED ONE is much prettier. But I like the functionality and the ease of keeping it current. And what it does is more important to me than looks.
But, imagine how snug and easy it will be to cut custom foam in a Pelican case! :)

It's difficult to imagine just how compact these cameras are until you see the (relatively) small lens eclipse the chasis.

This makes a lot of the 'competition' look like expensive jokes. Not that other cameras aren't good, just that they are inefficient in design and usability.

Aside from the big juicy lens, this looks no bigger than an HVX200. :)

Very much looking forward to these proto photos.

Jim, I had an idea.

In keeping with the modular design, how about a REDWEIGHT module that is similar to dumb bells or, even better, the Bow-Flex Select-Tech weight system which would allow for quickly balancing handheld and shoulder-mount configs? It would, of course, look nothing like weights for working out, but could solve the issue of having to use the batteries to balance the Camera with.

There could be a very simple weight system where mini REDWEIGHTS are added until the Camera is balanced. It also could possibly have a forward/backwards sliding system for fine adjustments.

Just an idea in it's infancy, but maybe has potential?

A simple "support pod" like Danny has with his DVTec rigs would do the job more efficiently, methinks... Spring loaded rod.

This sounds like a job for the third-party folks.

any ETA on when we might be able to expect at least some ballparks on some of the module pricing?

Thanks.

ditto, thats the million dollar question I've had since Dec 3

Perhaps. If so, anyone interested in developing it can split the profits with me 50/50. :-) (But I'll give it to Jim for free) Hah!

comparison shots.....

As for dumbells making it heavier....not sure about that!

Dave,

dang, i forgot that they had a good shoulder design before they did the one they released :-).

definitely looking forward to a lower mount

Ooo! Ray Bans?

juuuuuuuust kidding.... :clown2:

Haha. More like Oakley if Mr. Jim Jannard has anything to say about it.

Haven't we all...

Anyway, I agree with what just about everybody else has been saying. Actual photos just make the system seem more real. And the balance and form factor are looking pretty damn good (of course the form can be changed completely due to its modular design, but still, you know what I mean). Like some others, I’m also wondering about the weight of a setup like this, although I understand that that might not be possible to estimate since this is a prototype model and may not be made of the same materials or have the same internal components as the final versions. Also, is this a working model? Or is it just a mockup to get a feel for the physical dimensions? Does this model produce actual… footage?

Also, if at all possible, I’d like to get a closer look at that new EVF design shown in the “Still Changing…” thread. I’d like to see how it lines up with an operator’s eye in a setup like this, and maybe in a still setup, and definitely how it works out with a 3d setup. I hate to make requests on this site—makes me feel like I’m sounding entitled or ungrateful. News on the development of these cameras just makes me so excited and curious. You guys are doing great things over at RED. Seriously, from the standpoint of a film student, I can’t imagine a better camera option than the Scarlet. I am so appreciative, and I just want to express my gratitude for the RED digital cinema company.

Some big stuff is happening over at RED. When stuff like this gets posted, it gets pretty tough to do homework. You guys are making it pretty difficult for me to write my mid-term paper that’s due tomorrow. I know it’s been said about a million times, but I just can’t wait to give you guys my money and have one of those sitting on my shoulder. Thanks all.

-Michael

P.S. The panel discussion on the R1 and the future of cinema over at USC the other day was great. Thanks for that too.

Man, I really hope we'll be able to get these things in chrome! I thought black was the best choice but I'm liking silver more and more.

Thanks for the update Jim. Can't wait to see whats next!
-Ben

Wait until you point it at a window or any reflective surface....

BLACK PLEASE!
