Queens Filmmakers Skip Box Office, Go Straight to Big House

post says:
Two Queens crooks posing as filmmakers starred in a live remake of "Dumb and Dumber," trying to hawk a rented $72,000 movie camera rig on Craigslist for a fraction of the price, law-enforcement sources said. But the hapless thieves - Omar Tineo, 23, and Robert Perez, 22 - wound up trying to sell the high-end digital camera to undercover cops, who spotted it online Wednesday and set up a sting, the sources said. Two days earlier, the suspects rented the Red One camera, along with a tripod and some lenses, from Hollywood supply company Indie Rental, saying they were making an independent film. The knuckleheads didn't try to disguise their identity, and Omar used his own credit card to secure the $900-a-day rental, sources said. The duo allegedly put the goods for sale on Craigslist for a mere $17,000, but undercover cops took notice and set up a sting. When the suspects went to a Lower East Side meeting place Wednesday afternoon, they were stunned as officers slapped cuffs on them. "They're complete morons. They tried a get-rich-quick scheme and it backfired," said a source. Both were charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

good thing camera is safe!

Man! There is NOTHING more satisfying than hearing stories like this. It makes me feel all warm and cozy inside... :) Have fun rotting in jail!

Fantastic...justice at last!! Here's hoping for an equally satisfying resolution to all the other thefts.

p.s. these guys were serious morons...used their own names/credit card!!?? :bye2:

Kudos to the cops - it's good to see they are on top of this kind of fraud... What are the chances that the cops would be the first people to "buy" the kit? There must be a substantial resources allocated to this and THAT makes me all "warm & fuzzy" inside...

:) Peter
