If you haven't already purchased these, do so now. For $5.95... there are no excuses.

If you're like me (and loads of others) you often find yourself shooting in "sandy/dusty/dirty" environments. I have always hated taping up cameras, fumbling with rain covers in the desert...

These caps are only for the SD and CF slots but it's a start and they WORK. Go buy yourself some.

(Hopefully, someone will make caps for the side of the camera as well.)

if they had the side ones too, i'd buy all of them in a heartbeat.

They would be great with a retaining line. Otherwise, they will be lost almost instantly.

I just put a piece of paper tape of open slots. It's always in the ac's kit.

M

Actually - they don't fall out. A good tug is required to get them out.

Tape can/will fall off.

If by retaining line you mean a safety line - one could do that easily.

Here's a pic showing the caps.

You can see they slide in quite a ways into the spaces they're protecting.

(Camera's on it's way to be upgraded, no pics of them with it yet.)

Nice Shawn....
Now who's up for ordering a set for the other connectors.
I hope the company the produces similiar plug would have similiar drawing for other connectors:
usb x2 types
hdmi x 1
ta-3 x 5
lemo x 3

This sort of injection molding company...link here would likely provide.

Would love a set!!

Dave

The RIP panel covers all those connectors on the I/O side. A santoprene gasket (same material as the Jimmy-Caps) sits between the panel and the camera body for a seal. The HDMI/USB ports are protected with a Santoprene cover at the access point on the panel. Once the panel is on your camera, your mini audio, timecode, audio monitor, 1.0/2.3 (video)x4, are all protected and will no longer be subjected to wear and tear for as long as you keep the panel on.
Sean, your posting is much appreciated!

Come NAB, you will also see a pretty neat shade for the RED LCD(s).

Hey Anthony - I think David, Jason and myself (plus others I'm sure) are looking for the Jimmy Caps for the side panel holes. Individual caps for each of the side connections. Sometimes only one channel of audio is being used, sometimes two or none. I never use HDMI, only use the USB when I need a lens light....

But hey, love the Jimmy Caps. They are one of the most highly used accessories in my kit. (Once I buy ET's Shock Mount, I probably won't be using CF cards anymore.) Can't wait for the ET raincover...

Yep, I was writing about when they're out for operation rather than inserted for protection. (Sounds like another kind of product, doesn't it?) :innocent:

ENG cameras have the rubber cups for connectors retained by a rubber band connected to the body. These will just disappear when they are removed on most sets without a retaining line.

And my 1/4" paper tape works perfectly on the CF card slot. I find it there weeks later.

tapes good....but given the choice I'd rather use rubber caps.

On the question of retaining line. I gues there are those who don't wish to drill a few holes into the Red connector plate or use the existing plate screws.
Maybe if you had the covers done up in sets with rubber interconnetions like in the pic below...they would provide anchors for each other.
Most of them look like standards sockets which a lot of connector companies already have drawing for.
just a matter of asking your Ajax Rubber bung company to spit out sets with a connecting strap.

each set of 3 plugs wouldn't cost $1 to manufacture.
15% of Red owner buys 2 of each set (4) at $25 per set gives aprofit of $30K...umm?
There, I talked it up....anyone want ot take it the next step!!

Dave,

I looked into making these some time ago. The cost to make the aluminum mold for the injection machine can be pretty expensive. After Scarlett/Epic were announced, it definitely didn't make sense to manufacture something for a camera that would be replaced in another year or two. Maybe I'll revisit the concept when the new body styles are released.
