B&H Alternative in LA

[Adam Levins]

I am flying to Brazil for a 5 week shoot in 3 days and need to pick up some additional lighting and audio kit. I am in San Diego / LA and was wondering what the best Pro Video and Audio store is over here.

Due to the time frame I will need a place that has plenty of option and stock.

Thanks in Advance.

Some combo of EVS in Glendale, Samy's Camera and Film Tools might get you through your needs... there's really no B&H comparison out here.

what kind of lighting? if it's something like kino flo or grip from matthews, you can get a deal with BJ at custom supply and then do a pick up from LA.

I prefer Samys Camera in Los Angeles over B&H. They are friendly and will beat B&H prices anyday of the week if you talk to them the right way. They may not have EVERYTHING that B&H does but they sure do have a lot. Not so much audio gear, but def lights, lenses, bags, etc.

Try the LA store on Fairfax, just south of 3rd street. Right near the WGA

Thanks You guys are a great resource.

I went to EVS and they gave me a great deal, basically matching or beating B&H on most products.

Was going to visit Film tools for Gels as they are right next to each other but ran out of time.

I have nothing but respect for Samy's, but we can be friendly too, in a sorta "Nu Yawek" sorta way, sorta.

By "Nu Yawek" friendly, you mean rude and UNfriendly, right?

ROFL. If THAT'S what you want, try the waitresses from Boston's Durgin Park. We are like small children at their prodigious feet when it comes to the arch and gruff treatment of paying customers.
