Hi everyone

Friday we announced the new microFollowFocus version 2, including a 19mm version.

Details can be found here:

http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.472981/it.A/id.709/.f?sc=2&category=11

It's actually two new products in one: The first part is the new microFollowFocus version 2 which sports:

- a quick release clamp,
- "3D" marking disk (extruded so it can also be read by the camera operator)
- lighter weight design

The second is a 19mm adapter clamp which attaches to the 15mm version and adapts it to 19mm rods. You can think of it as getting 2 follow focuses in one: one for your 15mm lightweight rods, and one for your 19mm Red setup.

The combo above is $775, available for order now through our online store, and starts shipping February 15th.

Thanks

Brian

Looks great! Do the clip-on rings for SLR lenses provide stoppers? I have a Nikon 17-35 whose focus ring turns infinitely, which would obviously throw off the focus marks. I know Zacuto offers a ring with stoppers, but it's pricey. Also, does the micro support reversing the gear direction, to make Nikons move in the "expected" direction?

Thanks,
Tim

No and yes. No, you can't attach it to the existing microFollowFocus, as it has no quick release clamp.

Yes, in that we provide an upgrade kit for current microFollowFocus units to be converted tp the new v2 quick release version. That upgrade is here:

You can then add the 19mm clamp to that setup.

Wow.. There sure are a lot of design similarities to the Arri Follow focus. What gives? First Ronford Baker, and now this?!

Wow

I don't know about that, Arri has an articulated arm. This doesn't really seem all that similar to me beyond the de-facto follow focus functionality

Hi Jay

I don't think Arri is the only company to use quick release clamps, but there are some pretty substantial differences between our two systems.

Ok. The mount system looked very similar that's all. Perhaps it's just me. I just got off a shoot and we were discussing this system so when I saw it on yours I said "wow!"

But what do I know.. I just use the stuff, I don't design it.

Hi Chuck

Thanks - we don't have a dedicated 'lash adjustment' switch or knob per se, but the linear engagement piece (fancy for the sliding plate) can be considered a lash adjustment between the drive gear and the lens gear.

Hope that helps

I meant in the right angle gear box itself. But if it is your design as opposed to some of those commerical units out there that some companies buy to reduce their production costs, (you know who I mean lol) I'm sure it's fine.

There's some secret Redrock sauce in the gear designs that make it a tight follow focus unit. The gearbox itself is carried over from the version 1 microFollowFocus

Looks great Brian. Will complement my MicroMatteBox nicely. Glad I waited and didn't spend $2,000 to $4,000 on an Arri FF. I love the MicroMatteBox and these two products prove that high-quality gear can be affordable too.

Ordered mine today.

we ordered last thursday, if we get the older one, can we return it for the newer one?
we literally bought it the 29th. would really suck to be outdated by a day.
i contacted sales already.

I already looked up your order and had them delay it for the v2 follow focus.
