I just received my little RaidRack with silent block for the Red hard drive. Two days ago, I had a Run&Gun shoot in Paris with the EVF and the Red craddle. It was good but I though I could put away 1,5 kg more.
8,3 kg with the shoulder and a 50mm 1,4 nikon ! Not bad !
Here are the pics :

- You can see the little Bogen mini clamp (20 $), an absolute "must have" accessory for stopping fighting with the stupid magic arm of the Red. With it you can really put the LCD where you want, and you can't anymore throw it down when you miss the screw hole

- You can see the Allstar shoulder. A very nice accessory wich is really light an easy to use

- Last, you can see the RaidRack with silent block, perfect for holding the Red drive.

In a Run&Gun config, I always put the battery belt.

You attached the curved shoulder pad to the bottom of the camera?

And you shot in between your arms? Did you ever get your arm in the shot?

- Yes

- With the 14mm, if I extend my finger of my right hand, I just can see it.

Question...

Do your arms get tired in that position? Discussion about this on the Mantis thread and Geoff mentioned how painful that position can be after more than 30 minutes or so. With the extended handles on the Mantis you can keep arms at your sites and practially operate hands free for much longer.

Thoughts?

I usely use nikon prime and no mattebox or FF, so the weight is on the back, not on the the arms. The center of gravity is the main concern.I think, if I had to use a more heavy config, I should put more weight backward (drives on long rod for example).

Holding the camera on the shoulder is much less painful than carrying it by the hand (about 2 km walk last night). It is easy to rotate, easy to shoot down but much more difficult to shoot up, and I lean my back on a tree for filming the building last night.

I don't know the weight of the Mantis, but the weight of the Allstar shoulder is something like 200 g.

this is very cool.. good work.

I know this is an older post, however I am trying to work out my best options for a light weight "shoulder shoot".

Could you tell me the name of, and where you got the bracket (NOT the Bogen mini clamp) that is mounted to the top of the universal mount, that holds the black "crossbar" in place?

I could really use one of those, a name, website to purchase, anything would be greatly appreciated. Also, same question with the black crossbar itself, where might I find one.

Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

Who makes that Raid holder?

Action Products.
I bought one and love it. Sooo simple and light.
You have to order it from Switzerland but well worth it!

Where is that shoulder mount from? I can't find AllStars' website showing that.
