You can use the cheap wire hangar that come with most china balls but the lantern locks offer a much more user-friendly solution, I sunk $600 into the Chimera star fixture and lantern because I wanted a durable solution that could be used with my 200W Joker, the Star fixture also lets me use 1000W tungsten or the 5100K CFLs. Versitility and speed are worth money. Especially when your trying to work fast.

Ketch- have you used these lights? They have a CRI of 84- so I'm wondering how well they perform... only 200w for 800w output is great! :)

They work great, I use them in a set of three with the Photophlex Cnstellation system, so 600W total with a output of 2400w light, approx.

The temperature of this bulbs is rated at 5000K then you loose half to a full stop depending on what you use in front of the soft box, I use a 54 x 72, for me they work great but been using them moistly for Photography.

Will be using them soon in a RED shot for the Trailer of "UNCONDITIONAL" will report...

Ketch, B+H says the constellation 3 can handle 450 fluorescent watts. you haven't had any trouble using 3 200w bulbs?

Thanks for the pics and you opinion. I've seen the Indislider but not mounted. Looks like something to add to the kit. Nice...very useful actually.

Thanks...

I'm looking forward to hearing how they fair with the RED. I've seen those constellation units, but opted against them since the output wasn't what I wanted- but with these 200w bulbs... that may just do the trick ...

In that case, DIY like I do using a porcelain socket a stick of lamp rod and some other odds & ends from the electrical aisle. I think the last one I built was around $8 in parts. :red_bandana:

If your into other DIY projects here is a write up on a DIY SLIDER:

I like DIY projects as it feels good to make gear with my own hands and save some money. However, it is nice to buy a well made piece of gear and know that it will work straight out of the box....

Actually have only used with two 200w as the third arrived broken and awaiting replacement, but the constellation uses also 3000w total of tungsten, so i imagined and asumed the same with flourescent,, will read more careful.

Edit: Brandon, I haven't found any were that saisys anything about limiting the flourescent to 450w, it only says that the three Photoflex tubes of 150w each total @ 450W, again I think it should be safe, as they handle 3000w of tungsten balanced bulbs.

will see next week :)

Will do Ryan.
