Currently when you select the Display/Guide Settings: Timecode or any of it's variations it displays the Timecode of the timeline within RedCine not the start run record / edge timecode. Source timecode works fine and displays the start time of day / ext timecode as I would expect.

Personally, I'd like to see the display Timecode be the run record / edge timecode so I can display both of the files timecodes in a burn in window.

Regards,

Brenton

Yes. Wait, let me rephrase that - OMFG, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, YES!

This bit me and created a HUGE amount of manual figuring to do set some ins and outs.

I'd made timecode window burns from proxies for a client to do selects (this before Redcine came out), and then I couldn't display the timecode I needed to see in Redcine. Also, the displays to let you type in numbers relate to the entire timeline, not to the shot, and you can't type in timecode, and....I should start a new thread.

Hi Brenton,

I do believe there is a process you go through in camera that will force the edgecode to display as default over the timecode. We discovered this by doing a TC jam sync shoot and then finding that the edgecode and not the free running timecode came up in post. I can't remember the exact process as I have't done a TC shoot since then, but Scott can probably clear this up for you. This was done pre-Redcine so I dont know if that changes things...

cheers.

Ben

PS can you contact me off list. I have someone that is interested to see some projected footage & I wanted to know what clips you have available that we didn't see on Monday.

I don't run any of the Red applications at home and I haven't had any hands on time with RedCine.

On the camera when setting time code and jam synching you need to remember to go to System/Setup/Preferences/Timecode to switch from Edge Code to Time Code (Free Run)

I'd like this option to be moved to System/Project/Timecode menu tree.

I'd like the CAMERA to display either TC or Edge or BOTH on the EVF/LCD/Preview - but ONLY write Edge to Edge meta-data and TC to TC meta-data.

This way, what comes out of the camera is always the same. Edge is edge. Tc is TC. Then, in POST, you can choose 'em, swap 'em, change 'em -

and yes, REDCINE should let you display/burn EDGE code (in addition to TC)

Ok Mark... (rolling up my sleeves)

Why do you want two separate timecode tracks? I've been struggling with this one, and I just can't see a good reason for it other than to make people who are comfortable with tape feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

And if the goal here is to make those people comfortable, well...

The only place I see two distinct pieces of timecode metadata per frame ending up is in a massive friggin migraine for Online guys.

Enlighten me... I am but a grasshoppa...

You can roll your sleeves back down Luki.

Do I NEED two tracks?

No.

Two paths here -

#1) Keep BOTH - Edge and TC - then I STRONGLY suggest the camera ONLY makes proxies with TC in the TC track. Period. Then, in POST, if you want, you can change. Issue here is gonna be dealing with EDLs with MIXED (edge+TC) in the conform (my proposed solution is fixing it in the EDL with "RED TOOLS" my latest hypothetical RED application - which would be a database like Cinema Tools)

#2) Ditch Edge all together - have ONE track of TC - but let me select if I want that one track RUN RECORD (edge) or TIME OF DAY (tc).

The more I think about this - the more I think #2 might be the path of least pain.

See Luki ... that wasn't so bad, right? I am not always a pain in the ass am I?
