At the risk of "reveling" something that everyone else knows about, :sorcerer:
I'm going to post this just in case there are people out there who struggled with this very basic issue like I did. I haven't had the camera that long by the way.

Ok, so I shoot and I like the way it looks and then I Log and transfer and it looks completely unlike what I thought I shot. Oh, it's brining in the Native or RAW look, that's cool except if I commit to ProRes I loose all the great flexibility that R3d gives me. In some cases I'm willing to give up some of that flexibility as long as i can bring in the footage looking like what I shot on set.

Well long story short. Open the footage in Red Alert. Adjust it and save your settings as a preset. Go back to Log and Transfer and open the RED FCP Log and Transfer plugin menu and you should see the preset you just saved. You might have to close and re-open the L&T window to load your new preset.

I can see creating a bunch of these presets. Is there a way to save them to a sub-folder?

it's clearly written in the release note. It's working for me but I heard from my client that it's not working for him. Preset does show up for him but nothing gets applied. He's with older OS though (10.4.11 I think). Anyone having similar problems?

Keep in mind that some adjustments, like curves, don't make it into L&T. Apart from that, it works fine here.

Derek,
If you drop your 2k quicktime proxy files on the timeline instead of going through L&T, you can then open the file in redalert, do your adjustments and go file/make quicktimes. This will update the proxy file in the timeline with your corrections.
A word of warning though, I've been getting my audio messed up using this workflow so only do it if your footage is MOS.
Shane.

Point taken, actually I scanned over the release notes and didn't see it, but I believe you I'm sure it's there. (but I wouldn't say it was CLEARLY written)

I'll try to confine my posts to fan boy cheering and complaints about products that don't exist. I'm kidding you Kaku, but there is a lot to know about this camera and it's workflow so I think its probably fine that people share their discoveries, especially for those of us that have had the camera for less than a month.

Thanks for mentioning that curves do not import. Uber helpful.

Thanks Shane, Yeah I knew about that one, I'm just not having the best luck editing with Proxies. Performance is sluggish (4 core 3.0 ) I'm hoping that by upgrading to an 8 core mac I'll be able to take advantage of that workflow. Advise? R3d support in FCP and Color is awesome, but again performance issues. I edit with clients in the room, so the less I have to explain the better.

I stood on the position who wrote the manual of FCS installer where I saw the explanation, and thought people should read the document that's all, aside from that, more good points come out from more people so your efforts in making the thread gets rewarded :). I was excited as you probably were when those presets worked.

Good to know some parameters don't inherit, thanks nomad.

10.4.11 is fine...that's what I used for development. My guess is that
the preset files from RA are not in the proper directory.

Sounds great Reinhart.

Thanks for developing this Reinhart. This is a great upgrade to FCP workflow.

Not to be greedy, but if there is a way to organize and access Presets in sub-folders that would be a nice addition.

Having presets in the wrong folder is an error I've seen in some places where I was asked for help. But once the preset is showing up in the list in L&T, it should be applied when chosen. There must be a different problem in the case mentioned.

give me a detailed example of what you're looking for

Sure.

Right now if I save say 20 Red Alert Camera presets in the designated preset folder, I will see all 20 Camera presets show up in the FCP log and transfer drop down. What would be nice would be to have the option of creating folders in the designated preset folder to help organize these presets by project. So, the FCP L&T drop down would have a folder structure. That way I don't have to sift through lots of presets if I'm only playing around with 2 or 3 presets.

Short of that, my plan is to just store my presets in a project archive and pull them into the RED Alert Preset folder when I need them.

Just a cool feature. Again, awesome plug-in

I like this idea too, but the problem I have is that the UI for the L&T plugin
is predefined, and somewhat limited. Well, quite limited. Actually, very limited.
I have to stick everything you want into that single menu. I don't even get sub-menus. In the meantime, I *might* be able to allow you to put the presets in subfolders (under the place where REDAlert puts them) and place some sort of numeric designator in front of the name so at least they'll be grouped. Would that help?

How limited is it?:clown2:

That solution sounds great. I'm not sure how you'll pull it off, but yeah, that would be nice.

OK, reality check here folks. HOW many times has any of us received an email or message from a software developer offering to even attempt to build the application "just the way we want it".

Only from one-man-bands, never from a developer in a company selling 5000 cinematic cameras in two years!

A simple solution on the users side would be swapping all the presets in or out of the preset folder on a per-project basis, if this is what's needed. Or, since we are generating the presets in REDAlert anyway, what about having some elegant mechanism there to re-arrange the content of that folder?

Keep the good work going Reinhart, you are great, I know the limitations are from Apple's side. Even if you can only make curves carry over, that would be a giant leap for (camera)mankind. (Not excluding camerawomen)

Thank you in advance!

Hi Reinhart,

Any chance we could get an import with Metadata setting in the L&T drop down menu?
