Here's camera #2121 on a recent Lexus commercial we were supporting with one of our cameras in Toyotashi for Dentsu Live (European Office):

Rig is Mr Moco's SFH-30 which supports the weight of the Red One plus lens and motor no problem.

For the money this rig is a no-brainer for tight spots and compact spaces. We were originally trying to find a T-Rex or similar and only after not being able to get one of those options did we look at this system. In retrospect we should have chosen this first as it allows maximum flexibility and doesn't require lighting for T8 etc!

Highly recommended.

Cheers,

Paul

what's the price of this thing?

Hi Guys,

I noticed a few of you were asking about the SFH-30.

The cost of the SFH-30 is £5,000.

Depending on the application there are different controls (such as joystick console, pan bars, handwheels or software). It is a fully repeatable motion control head. As you will have seen it comfortably takes the RED camera and other small cameras. It is also used with DSLRs for stop frame and timelapse.

Other axes can be added such as track, zoom, focus.

Here is a link to our SFH-30 web page for more info, pictures and video footage:

Any other questions, please ask.

Hey Paul,

Hope all is well, nice rig.

There are several different control units for the SFH-30, these are:

Pan Bars - £2,500 (this option requires the joystick console)
Joystick console - £2,500
Handwheels - £3,950
Aeon software - £100 (simple software for A to B moves - can run from a PDA or laptop)
Flair Computer System - £5,500

As noted above the pan bar fluid head system works in conjunction with the joystick console. All control units record and playback moves. Choosing the control system to run the head is down to user preference and the type of applications you intend on using the head for.

With the Aeon software option there is also a wireless kit available.

Regarding other axes, we have motors to control zoom and focus that again are fully repeatable.

There are different track options and costs of this really depend on lengths and speeds. Track starts from £3,500.

How remote can the SFH-30 be controled?
Do you need cables or can you work it without cables?
I am thinking about 100 meter distance?

Hello Are,

For 100 metres I would suggest cables.

For simple timelapse and animation (A to B moves) we have Aeon software which has a wireless feature. Aeon runs from a PDA or laptop. We use bluetooth technology to wirelessly control the head. At IBC in Amsterdam (inside the hall), with all of the other wireless equipment at the show around we had it running from a PDA 50 metres away.

What is your application for the head? I see you film Wildlife so I assume it is either remote head or timelapse?

I was thinking both actually. (I am just trying to get some overview of the options.)

There are sometimes problems using hides (like smell, operator noise etc.) At many occations I have thought of using a remote system to be able to get undisturbed natural behaviour. How much noise does the head make?

And I am sure it would be nice for timelapse! In this regard the track option is also interesting.

The head is fairly quiet, the slower the movement the quieter it is. As you are only in Norway, why don't you come see us and you can demo the head?

Hi Ryan,
nice to see you posting here.
This little head and its price point is very interesting. Could you please tell a bit more about focus control and tracks. Are the tracks moco too? Is the lift a option too? What is the difference about servo or geared motors in the SFH 30?
Thank you,
Marc
