Anybody know of a hard case or shock case designed for the Mac Pro? It's obviously too large to fit into a standard rack, but I've been considering cannibalizing a rack mount to gain that extra 1.1" I'd need to put this puppy in a case.

Anybody know of any prefab Mac Pro hard cases that it can work out of?

any 1?

A lil pricy but this is DEFINITELY the way to go:

These cases are super light and very sturdy. We use them to lug our macpro's and cinema displays around.

here is one

60lbs though

I'm thinking of cutting the arms off and installing into a 5u case like this one

Should just fit in -- sticks out of the case by about 1/2 inch open but will fit in with the lids on. Only 17 lbs. No shock mounting but then don't kick it : )

Great stuff, guys. I weighed the pros and cons and just decided to go with a custom case for mine. I'll post pictures when complete.

Most people I've seen stand it upright surrounded by foam in the bottom of one of those rackmount cube cases.

Do you want to be able to use it while in the case? (Permanent installation in a case saves wear and tear on connectors and cuts set-up time.)

Will you be moving it around? Flying? Shipping it?

It's essentially just taking the brain portions of my DIT cart and wrapping them up into one case. The components on my cart are too exposed at this point, so I'm moving to a more protected enclosure.

The setup will be semipermanent in that everything can stay connected with the case closed. It'll also make my preparation for location moves as rapid as they are now. As it stands all I do is secure my monitor and roll. The only step this will ad is closing up the case. It's designed in such a way that the tower can stay connected to all of the rack mounted components and the monitor with the lid on.

I mocked it up in a halfway decent manner. I'll see how the models I get back from the case company look and post one or the other.
