Clarification on EPIC X vs. EPIC S35...

EPIC X lists a "Mysterium X Select" sensor and it has REDCODE 250. The EPIC S35 is just "Mysterium X" and REDCODE 225. What is the actual difference between the two brains?

Countless hours of hard work from many have contributed to making this program happen. RED is a collection of the most talented people I've ever had the pleasure to work with.

I have no doubt... :w00t:

I'm coming in next week... :innocent:

I know this sounds ungrateful but just checking if there will be any possibility of a similar FF Epic / monstro package as the Epic x for existing Red one owners, I'm in that cross over stills and motion crowd (and an early red one adopter) for whom the FF monstro Epic will really be the one camera for most of what I do, its all kind of unbelievably good though.
Thanks

RGB record

RGB record

So does that mean there's a variation on Redcode Raw that's storing RGB rather than Bayer?

Yes, it means that its using REDCODE RGB rather than RECODE RAW compression ... :construction:

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, however on the epic x S35 (epic only available to red one owners) i noticed it lists REDCODE 250 and on the standard epic s35 brain it lists REDCODE 225 is this just a typo?

Faster data rate for the RED ONE faithful. :)

"Mysterium X Select" Sensors are the best of the litter...

I guess there will be a sensor upgrade path from 5K Mysterium X to 6K Monstro for a price no larger then the difference between the two...

Just my opinion... :innocent:

Buy a RED ONE. Enjoy it. Shoot great images. Then trade it in. Not rocket science.

Can I work for Red!!! I would love to work for a company like yours. You guys are the best company ever!!!!

Geez, Jim, what's up with that? Too much coffee?

For the record, I purchased three RED Ones. I suspect that puts me somewhere in the top 5% of RED One purchasers. We used two of 'em for our first film.

And, Jim, what's absolutely true is that low-budget filmmakers need more dynamic range than the big boys. They have light kits to die for. They can put as much light inside a room as that great HMI in the sky. We, on the other hand, have a very modest set-up with just two small HMIs (2500 and 1200, respectively) and six Kino-esques. Attempting to shoot indoors and get enough light inside to maintain exterior detail on a bright day just isn't possible with small light kits. Thus, my (and other indie filmmakers') craving for the higher dynamic range of the Monstro.

For the record, I'm very excited about the new cameras. I'll undoubtedly buy an Epic or two. It just happens that a lot of us are going to be holding out for the FF35 to get that added dynamic range.

I should note, my "is that it" is actually "I'm kinda tired and planning to go to bed if this is the end of the big reveal" and not "is THAT it? what a waste of time" :)

"THANKS A LOT" from Red One owner 711 ...!!!

3. Trade your RED ONE in, and receive $17,500 credit, towards the purchase of an EPIC-X S35 Private Reserve package, which is only available to RED ONE customers...:w00t:

Jim

Jim,

You really spent a lot of time thinking about your loyal Red One owners as promised, and I salute you and the outcome, and welcome the EPIC-X S35 Private Reserve offer!!! :w00t: Now, this is really awesome...or as Jarred would say, "Really Bad Ass!!! :gun: :nuke:

I want to see if the "Select" in the Mysterium-X chip in the Epic-X has added dynamic range.

I'll admit, the deal looks terrific economically. . . $10,000 more for a killer new camera. But those of us looking for higher dynamic range will still crave the Epic FF35. In truth, I'd rather have a MONSTRO in S35, but that's apparently not in the cards.

:-(

Stephen

Why not get the Scarlett Monstro? It even does 75fps at 2k and timelapse now. With the new price, you can almost get two for one of your Reds (well, 2 brains).

the fixed lens scarlet looks to be an unbelievable product at an unbelievable price.

just wondering if the sensor specs (pixel size, dynamic range) were left off this time because they haven't been confirmed, or because people on the forums had too many retarded "quantum efficiency" discussions after the last time you posted them?

Excellent - 'top bin' parts are always very nice to have. Still really looking forward to that 2/3 Scarlet.

I'm very impressed so far.

I really like the idea of rewarding current Red One owners and, I'm sure, this support will go both ways. Congratulations for your hard work, Red! Can't wait for the end of Summer (our winter) '09.
