  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Prepare yourself...

But keep your expectations in check for a couple more days... if possible. :-)

Jim

"If possible?" Do you mean if it's possible for your captive audience to keep themselves in check for a couple of days, or does it mean YOU might not make it that long? :whistling:

hopefully this is the last of announcing announcements and we can buy some cameras?

i just want my scarlet... whatever it ends up being.. or epic if somehow a scarlet won't cut it...

The frame rates or the paying? :greedy:

I don't think it was Jim's intention, but it almost reads like we can buy more fps just like we can pay to add more toppings to a pizza. :whistling:

He said a high speed brain wasn't on the menu right now. I can always hope, but I think the announcement will be something else. I'm expecting further refinements to the DSMC line. What I would really like is more information on future potential of the RED One, what upgrade options and when and for what price. Also curious what ever happened to potential for ~4K projectors and displays, RED RAY, etc.. I'm sure that RED will be saving a good bit of this info for later dates too, like NAB.

Off-board RAM module like a Phantom?
That would be expensive.
The chip read speed would have to be high too, of course, or rows read before the whole image is analyzed?

Will there be coupons in the Sunday paper?:turned:

That, and a S35mm sized Monstro.

Stephen

That is what I want. 13+ stops, 4K or more, S35.

That would keep me going for years. I don't want to fake S35 by windowing in a FF35, and I don't want to use the relatively slow FF35 zoom lenses.

Finally, I don't care whether that means using an Red One (upgraded), Scarlet or Epic. I want to use T1.3 lenses on a S35 Monstro, whatever the camera body may be. Fingers firmly crossed.

"I don't want to fake S35 by windowing in a FF35"

How is that fake S35? You will still be able to put a pl mount on it and it just gives your clients more options.

I don't see any problems with a FF35. It is possible to use the affordable SLR lenses.

FF35 includes S35.
S35 does not include FF35.

Deanan made it seem like this would not be so easy. You would need a highspeed brain with RAM right on the brain probably. However, there is no processing overhead to a fully raw Ram buffer. Phantom stores everything in RAM before even black balancing. The black balance happens as the media is transfered out of RAM.

A nice thing that a high speed RED would have that phantom might never have though is Redcode. Not to be underestimated how helpful it would be to compress raw data as it's moved out of a RAM buffer.

So, it sounds like those threads for an ultra-high speed camera have been heeded and there will be an Epic added to the line-up with silly frame rates and an equally silly price.

This is the great thing about the modular brain idea though, isn't it? Those of us who don't need anything above 120fps, or even 30fps, don't have to pay for it but get a simple, cheap camera head and then hire in, from those who are prepared to pay up, the high speed head when it's needed. Brilliant!

Hey Jim, you know it's Wednesday the 3rd in just over 12 hours here in Australia. You can tell us Aussies all your news then :innocent:

there is nothing fake about shooting S35 on our FF35 sensor.. As mentioned, you just have more options.
