Anyone know if it's possible to backup a Red Drive using the USB OTG port of the Nexto ND2700?

From Nexto website:
"Easy OTG Backup
With OTG port and USB cable you can directly backup data from any USB devices"

I've just received a NEXTO ND2700. In fact, it makes a copy of any Ext hard drive from is USB port, including Red Drive. It work really great.

For the 16GB CF card, I didn't receive them yet, but I don't know why it shoud'nt work.

I did a quick check (couple of files) with the ND2700 & 16GB cards and it seemed fine.

Could U tell me how about the data transfer speed? (I got my 2700, but dont have RED CF, just old SanDisk ultraII, (1GB was 97 sec to MOVE HDD)) ..so I would be happy to get info about how long does it take to MOVE (not COPY) 1GB data from RED CF?
THX for help!

Will do and soon as my camera comes back from Red (audio board upgrade).

Hi David,

What's your camera number, like to know where we stand in the up-grade programme.

Thanks

Gabriele -- I would also like to know if another solution exists. Seems like these things are hard to find in the US. I ordered one from MyDigitalDiscount.com, but they are on back order. I will let this thread know when/if I get it.

Great find!

Correct me if I am wrong here:

It would be cool if it was Firewire 800 or the reddrives had a eSATA out. Using USB2 is not the fastest way to go considering the Nexto and the reddrive can go way faster.

Maybe someone could devise a eSATA cable from Reddrive to Nexto? That would be sweet! Or maybe there is all ready a box to convert firewire 800 to eSATA in?

There's an open thread for the eSATA cable:

Hope RED provide one soon!

As for the Red Drive backing up using USB with the Nexto 2700, here's my test result:

-----------------
CF 8GB full
to NEXTO 2700

Copy - AutoVerif "F" : 12m 18sec
Copy - AutoVerif "S" : 4min 44sec
Copy - AutoVerif " " : 4min 35sec

------------------
RED Drive with 8GB (same content as the CF)
to NEXTO 2700

Copy - AutoVerif "F" : 11min 52sec
Copy - AutoVerif "S" : 4min 25sec
Copy - AutoVerif " " : 4min 12sec
------------------

Red Drive to NEXTO via USB is faster than CF to NEXTO.
