We have tickets available for the premiere of the "The Blackout" a feature-length science-fiction horror film.

While a Canon XLH1 is far from being a RED, it was shot using a hard-disk based ProRes workflow. Our next production will definitely be shot entirely on two RED ONE's.

PM me if you're interested and I can provide a link to getting tickets.

Wow, the trailer looks really good, image quality wise and the acting is far above the traditional low budget histrionics we've come to expect. Good luck with this project, it is far more important to be out there shooting your projects than what you shoot them with...

I have a customer that has been shooting on the XLH1 with the mini 35 and is recording the uncompressed signal from the HD-SDI through the IO-HD to his mac and the images look great. This image quality looks great as well. Congrats.... Did you use any depth of field adapters?

I see the newsreader's name is "Kit Rossi". Homage to a prominent RedUser perhaps?

The premiere is on Monday, December 1st at 8:00pm at The Landmark Theater in West L.A.

Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets.

We didn't use any DOF adapters. We needed as much stop as possible as most of the film takes place during a power black out. We used a lot of longer focal lengths and shot pretty much wide open. So DOF was relatively shallow.

proves it's not the camera, but the execution that matters. good stuff. very commercial look and feel. great sound.

So many people think sound is something that does not really matter, when in truth, it's more then picture.

could I ask what budget range this fell into once all was finished?

Landmark will look fantastic. I think your going to use the Sony SRX 4k projector correct?

Ooooo

Ooooo

Scary! Looks great! Great camera movement, shot choices. Love the little girl picking up the flashflight in mid-terror! Didn't like seeing the monster/alien, seems to give away too much.

Great animated Starway logo! Love the "Le voyage dans la lune" moon face - very cool.

Yes, I'd like to inquire about the finished product budget also if is not inappropriate ?

Yes, it will be projected on their 4K projector. I'm having a little trouble with the Quvis software not loading onto their servers. Sony's looking into it as well as Quvis. Hopefully we can create a DCP version. If not I might just haul the Mac down there and SDI it straight in.

The budget was less than $1M. Much less.

How are You loading it in? I had that server at home in Tokyo during the Kurosawa project. Make sure You are loading 12-bit DPX uncompressed files. Any help - give me a yell... (702.202.3600)...

Good Luck with the premiere...

Congrats Robert! I wish you a lot of success.
Been following your work from a distance ever since you posted that first teaser trailer of "The Dead" and used it to show people what could be done with DV in the right hands.

It must be DCP compliant. Which is JPG2000. However, the Quvis Wraptor software should work. But the projectionists over at the Landmark are getting error messages loading it to their server. Quvis is unresponsive. Sony looked at the log file and can't figure it out.

So I'm about the scream! LOL!

Worse case is I haul my Mac down to the theater and SDI it right into their system.

Thanks Steven. We've come a long way since The Dead. Thank God!!! We're in final negotiations to sell worldwide rights. Which is a relief. It won't get a theatrical (no surprise there), but it will be treated very well in the HV markets.

Next stop Berlin.

Next project, FF35 Epic. Can't wait (hands wringing). Mwahahahaha!!!

wow... and really great sound design too....at least for the trailer.

I know a lot of RED Users don't like Sony, but I have to say they totally saved my ass today. We've been having trouble with the DCP package that the Quvis Wraptor softwware was creating. It wouldn't load onto Sony's cinema server. Quvis' support department would only shrug their shoulders and say "it should work."

Well, the entire Sony engineering team up in San Jose tackled the issue, inspected the DCP contents and realized there was a simple XML extension problem. Turns out to be an easy fix.

With the long holiday weekend looming I was growing very frightened that we wouldn't get this fixed before the premiere on Monday. Thankfully at 5:00pm today Sony came back with the fix. Wow, what a RELIEF!

Now I can enjoy the holiday and know my screening will go as planned.

"there was a simple XML extension problem"

Could you tell me more about that problem? How have you fixed it?
I have similar problem I can upload and play "Wraptor"-ed DCP package on doremi server without any problem but I can't upload it to XDC SOLO-G3 server.

Warm regards from Poland
Antoni
