  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

If I'm reading the specs right, PL Mount lenses won't cover the 5K area on the Mysterium-X either. The sensor is significantly bigger than normal s35.

You are right there. But I think that since the Mysterium-X has 5.4 micron pixels same as the original Mysterium, PL lenses will cover the 4.5K S35 area which we've never been able to record on the R1. The last .5K becomes the look-around, and may vignette a bit.

Well, it's 3:30 in the morning and the entire RED staff was involved in this historic evening. Without a doubt this was the most amazing time in the legacy that is RED. Every single person that is involved with this program, from the warehouse to engineering to administrative to the man himself was here and the experience might be the most memorable of my life. There will never be another night like this. RED made history and I am proud to be a part of it. The world has a glimpse of what we have been working so hard to achieve. The man hours, the passion, the desire that made this night a reality, is a product of the hard work of many. This is a milestone in the history of camera development and the team that made it happen might very well be the greatest group of people that I've had the opportunity to work with.

We're all headed home now for a night of rest. We'll be back at it hard in the morning because here is really where we most want to be. Thanks for the support, thanks for being the greatest community ever. RED is going to change the world and tonight marks the beginning.

You guys deserve a rest. We appreciate what you guys have done and we have nothing to say other than appreciation and applause for what RED has achieve. We are very glad that we live to witness the huge mark left today by RED in the industry and it will in the history and will be remember for a very long time and this will be big leaps towards many years to come.

Thank You Jim Jannard, Thank You Jarred, Thank you Graeme, Thank You TED, Thank you Stuart, Thank You BIG Jon, Thank You Jon Sagud, Thank You Sean, Thank You Kelly, Thank You Marco, Thank You Brent, Thank You Deanan and the rest of RED Team.

Have a good night sleep and thank you for everything

Best Regards
Rivai

Great ideas, but are we ready for this $$$$????

Great ideas, but are we ready for this $$$$????

Just pondering: are we going to be able to openly support and scream "...for the masses...?":mail1:

I have not crunched the numbers, but I do not know if the $17,500 will be enough to start to think on upgrading? Maybe my time to dream should be over with the Red One; these times are not for the Joe six-pack or the plumber (I cannot believe I wrote that!!!), but the time is for the big rental houses and studios? I really need time to digest this, specially after self-decided sleep deprivation...

PS

So now the Scarlet can do better that my Red One (4K vs. 5K????) Something is wrong..... maybe not....:angry01:

The cheapest fullframe Scarlet is $12.000. Which is totally awesome, don't get me wrong. But it won't kill the other DSLRs.
Think of the sporting photography application here... Imagine burst mode in a sense of just getting two or three seconds of 30fps to make sure you get 'that moment' you need.

I don't necessarily consider it a DSLR killer either but I think a fair share of shooters will find tremendous use in having a DSMC. Also, there's the market of people who shoot both motion and still; if they can have one camera which can be tailored independently to their needs, that's very appealing to a lot of people.

Wow. Much gratitude for all the work done. Much hope for things to come. This is the change we've been waiting for.

Indeed. That is a crucial question. I know PL won't cover a FF35 sensor, but I hope it will be possible to use an FF35 Monstro in windowed S35, or even Academy 35 mode with a PL mount lens. The spec as listed would imply not, but I see no reason why it shouldn't be possible.
Whilst the spec doesn't include PL mount for some, the mounts are interchangeable. I'd be surprised if windowing the sensor ala Red One wasn't included for variable frame rates/different mounts. The only thing I dislike is the site of Hex screws used to lock the mount in. A quick release mechanism that holds the mount securely would be a huge bonus. Otherwise swapping mounts is a big plus.

The modularity of the designs look far better in my mind than the Red One. The addition of 3D is great also.

Not too bothered about having much more resolution personally (If only for the nightmare of the workflow!), but medium and large format cinematography could be very interesting indeed and great to hear Red are making specific lenses for this market - This kind of thinking could really buck the trend and I can see why Red have announced their own mount given they may want to make it difficult for other camera companies to have access to such lenses... Possibly, just guessing :)

The concepts seem great. I wait with great anticipation to see the quality of the footage. These cameras must overcome the electronic shutter issues and the look and feel of footage needs to be second to none for these cameras to topple the likes of the D21 and F35 which seemingly curry favor at present.

Looking good so far Red,
Paul

Is my RED1 obsolete?

Is my RED1 obsolete?

After I saw some of the specs

asking myself:

Is my RED1 obsolete?

My RED1 still not obsolete!?

RED_noobsolence1.jpg

RED1 with Leica Summicron-M 90mm f/2 lens.

I think my RED1 is still not obsolete:

How?

Let's say this is only in the case that my RED1 would be upgraded to Mysterium-X sensor.

So what I would get then?

According to the RED newest specs with RED1 upgrade I would get something close to Epic S35 that has 11+ dynamic range and 100fps speed at full size sensor.

Than I'll keep IMS for RED1 and get again more lenses on RED1 camera that is an option includes more then any other possible with Scarlet or EPIC.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Truly Amazing

Truly Amazing

Pretty amazing stuff. The high res stuff (6k+) is far more aimed at the stills market than the film/video market. Hollywood post moves slowly and unless a new amazing transistor comes down the pike tomorrow, there will be no real way of dealing with this sort of data in any sort of realtime format. VFX in 4K is incredibly painful on even the most robust systems. Incredible breakthrough, but a 28K movie would need to be projected on Mount Rushmore for our eyes to even appreciate it. For a huge print though that would be incredible. Congrats to the red squad.
