  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

November 13th... prep.

Sure about the countdown this time?

When the first countdown was shown back on the first days of RED announcing the pre-order options for NAB a couple of years ago, it was bound to the local users local time. That meant, my countdown was OVER and I still had to wait another 9 hours offset from Germany to California :(

Could someone verify its not the same bug again, please... :)

Cheers,
Axel

Hope to se some footage or still shot from the scarlet tomorrow! I will not be disapointed!!!!

Well, I'm in London it the countdown equates to 14:00 GMT tomorrow. What do you see?

Seems to be correct now. I got it scheduled for 15:00 European Standard which is GMT +1. Changing timezone doesn't change the countdown, which means it works good now

If you want to bypass your company web filter. A common approach that works about 70% of the time is to use google translate. Tell google translate you want to convert the reduser forum from spanish to english. Then it looks like all the pages are coming from google. So long as work do not block google you should be fine.

Oh boy... I can hardly wait and it's only one day... !

Glad I didn't buy the Canon 5d mk2 yet (main purpose: photography)
Maybe there's a RED which can make also some nice stills and superior video for a little higher price point. An DSMC would be even better but let's assume that it will take another year to accomplish that.

Good job on the announcement date, since the 5d mk2 starts shipping in a few weeks you can win some souls from canon buyers ;)

Keep up the good work Jim, only I hope there's availability in The Netherlands, otherwise it would be a hassle to get it to Europe.

The market is changing rapidly also look at Hasselblad H3D and Mamiya DL28 (Leaf 6) now available at lower price points ($10k differences since before) since this month.

Best,

I think if you are hoping to see some footage shot by scarlet tomorrow, you will be disapointed!

A render and some specs - yes
A working camera - No

I personally am very excited but also quietly bummed.

I waited like crazy for the first scarlet announcement and was very excited when it came. Now I am waiting again for yet more specs and renders and months (if not a year) for the possibility of buying something. Meanwhile putting up with HDV tape capture and 35mm adapters (oh joy).

I almost wish RED hadn't said anything and just turned up with a real product, actually for sale. I would certainly get a lot more work done!

Current generation LCOS viewfinders are refreshing at up to 180fps and are much easier to see in low light conditions than an optical finder. Mirrors are not relevant to a digital motion picture camera. I doubt Red will be making anything with a mirror reflex system.

What is auto focus?:usd:

Then it's not a "DSLR killer", but just another movie camera.

Yea you most probely right. I was already happy with the first annonscements of scarlet so Im not going to be disaponted (even without stills). Yea its a pain to wait for a camera, (specially with the hvx when the us model came and I had to wait for the europén) but for once the camera gets better of the inputs on the forum so Its easy worth wating. Yihaa

When the countdown is over the countdown starts all over again. Maybe another year?

I just realized it looks like I'm talking about an asteroid or something like that.

It not only looks like that. Many people seem to prepare themselves for day X, go out and make some hurry bying, food, water, batteries, pay for the web access in advance, prepare, just prepare...

Hmm...probably not very realistic. Scarlet 1.0 was announced January 2008, mockups shown April 2008, and by the time the project was ended apparently about September 2008, we still hadn't seen any footage from Scarlet 1.0.

So I kinda doubt there's any footage right now from Scarlet 2.0, which currently exists as 3D renders.

When Scarlet 1.0 was announced, the earliest possible delivery date was estimated to be about 15 months out ("early 2009"). Now that Scarlet 2.0 is at that same announcement stage, we can probably expect delivery will be at least 15 months, with the footage from working prototypes showing up a little bit before whatever the delivery date turns out to be.

We'll drive ourselves absolutely insane by acting every day like Scarlet 2.0 is just around the corner...for 15 or more months. Count on it.

Don't be too sure about that. Keep an open mind. Red has matured in terms of manufacturing, QC, etc. I expect great things from them moving forward.

Oh no! I have a meeting during that time—I'll miss out on the live announcement :(
Most of us will miss it since I suspect the servers will crash when the countdown reaches zero.

they recently upgraded there servers in anticipation of a million hits...but anything could happen. imagine the band width tommorow morning.
