  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nikon D90 - Worth a look?

Although Graeme is probably more biased than normal, I agree with him. I was one of the first people to acquire a D90 and after the initial "wow" of video and shallow depth, interchangeable lenses wore off I saw it for what it really is: novelty. I still took the time to do that massive write-up on DVXuser because I knew others would be in love with it and not care about the same things I did.

The D90's D-Movie mode isn't even a mode, it's just a tacked on extra with very very limited control. The 720p is not worthy of being termed 720p by any means, but mostly passable at 480p. For Web Content and run n'gun straight-to-dvd? Sure.

It's a pretty nice step forward, worth a look if you're considering an HV20 + Adapter setup in comparison or, heck, even an DVX100b + Adapter in comparison. It's no real substitute for something like an EX-1 or HPX170 + Adapter Setup and certainly not a barebones RED setup. I'll take a RED and some Vivitar lenses before I would commit to using a D90 and Zeiss glass; that's probably a given, though.

Yes, noisy and aliassy. Ouch. I mean, it looks good until you look at say what nice RED One footage looks like properly downsampled to 720p.

Graeme
are you talking about the LX3 footage? i don't compare any of this stuff to RED, Yet....you know more than me about whats coming thurs but i still dont see RED making anything that fits in my pocket but i would get bigger pockets if necessary :)

Well, I'm not going to talk about thursday.... But it does disappoint me that the quality on these little cameras video mode is just not as good as it could be. Or else I'd be using one my self for family stuff.

i wasn't fishing....just making the point that i don't compare any of these things to RED for many reasons, just doesn't seem logical.

Fwiw...

Fwiw...

The D90 may have its flaws as expressed in the link below, but for the price, it has the capacity, with a few needed upgrades to challenge the so-called prosumers out there today. FWIW here...

They certainly won't listen the way Red does.

Canon's handling of the outcry for 24p and more exposure control on the 5D2 has been abysmal. Just a brick wall of silence.

Of course, Canon has to cripple its products, so communicating openly the way Red does here would be a disaster for them. They'd either have to lie and say these firmware updates are impossible, or admit they want to protect their other income streams by not enabling easily enabled features.

There's a reason they hide from their own customers: Shame.

They probably monitor chatter about their companies, though. So just in case...

Hey, Canon! GFY!
