  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Awesome dolly

The omni-tracker is nice, especially considering cost. There are only two things I would change about it. I would give it wheel locking mechanisms and I would make the body out of 7075 aluminum. The latter would probably raise the cost significantly, but I guess I can always dream.

Does anyone know the selling price of a Chapman-Leonard Super Pee Wee system?

Hi Burnie!

The Chapman Dolly only for rent, you may only rent it from those authorize rental house, great dolly, I used it for most of shooting project, and I love Fisher Dolly too, it's also work great for shooting.

By the way if you looking to buy one, you may try the Panther Dolly,
but I don't think that's good idea on invest such a lot money on the dolly,
cause the Panther Dolly might cost about 80,000USD.

Yep,it's called the Skater Mini by P&S.
Had a demo of it earlier this week, pretty awesome piece of kit,and very expandable, downside is the cost. I'll have to dream about it for a while longer.
Tom.

Pretty awesome. But why not do something similar on rails? Finding perfectly smooth countertop-like surfaces everywhere you want to shoot seems difficult.

The power of a great review... we just placed an order as well.

Mitch, the CamTram 2500 looks very well made, like a fine engineered tank. We’ll see how demand is for the Omni-tracker and look to get one soon.

Thanks for the post. I am currently looking for a dolly and this was extremely helpful.

You might want to check out an Elemack dolly, the Cricket or Spyder. While a million miles away from a Panther or Chapman, it’s still an amazing dolly at its price point... when you can find one for sale. It seems few change hands possibly due to the fact of it’s versatility. Also you can find accessories floating around from time to time and we are having a custom jib arm built. Somewhat like this, but a little more updated :nerd:

Very Nice setup

It's really not -- I just throw a 5-foot piece of laminated wood from Home Depot (that white plastic-y stuff is very smooth) in the back of my car. Cost about $20 -- shim it with a beanbag....

Putting it mainly on the floor, or raising it up?

well, remember its original intent is as a tabletop dolly, so you can run it on any tabletop indoors. or a concrete/hardwood floor, if you're shooting very low angles or mimicking a tabletop shot. the beanbag solution is for outdoors, and i tend to use it for canted angles -- hence the "shim it with a beanbag" (and a rock or the ground or what-have-you, for a dutch angle) or else two beanbags, to level it off...my beanbags are actually small buckwheat pillows, incidentally, to support a big piece of wood...

This is one of the platforms that I built for the Omni-Tracker. It sits on two C-stands with knuckles and sets up quicker than anything I've ever used before. I have one with a 1 inch aluminum frame for a base but this one was built from 1x3x8 as a base with 3 inch Baby plates used to connect to the c-stands.

What other heads have a flat base? Would a Delta, Gamma, or 1030 work?

Lee,

Can you show a picture of how the c-stands connect to the platform?

Here ya go. This is the better of the two dolly tables. It's made with an aluminum frame that I welded up with my handi-dandy mig welder....not that I really know what I'm doing, but a grinder can make any weld look good. The top is made from the highly compressed particle board, it's smoother than most anything unless you want to use a countertop surface.

We will be in the NC mountains tomorrow with a crew of 3 and we will move almost as fast as we would if we were just using sticks. You can't beat this thing for quick setups and balancing. If we need to get lower, I use a full apple flipped to the desired height or sand bags.

I'm all about what works, not about the name on the dolly or the track its riding on. The funny thing is that those who would "only use" a Fisher 11 or something similar, would have a fraction of the shots we'll get tomorrow with the same production value.

Nice work. Thanks for posting the pictures.

The P & S Technica "Skater Dolly is what originally interested me. I called to get a quote and thought that $6700 was a little high for something as simple as it really is. It's a great tool, but $6700 seemed a little high. That's when I found the Omni-tracker for around $850. I'm no brain surgeon, but they seem to do the exact same thing....laser and all. There's something to be said for smart purchases. Here are a few detailed pics of mine.
Smart indie indeed. My Congrats and thanks for sharing!
