Red Plug-in for CS4: update please!

Seriously man I don't have another two thousand for cineform. May be I need to go back to that crappy FCP solution. :unsure: :angry01: :usd: :huh:

Fair enough... still would like to know that it will also work in CS3?!
 
After installing it, will it recognize R3D files and process it natively in PR?

Natively as Avi or Mov files, so yes native in that sense.

If you are using the RED then having a sound post production workflow is paramount. If you use Premiere Pro and CineForm you will get an amazing performance boost and a RED workflow that works right now.

Give the P4K demo a try... it blows the shit out any other workflow for PPRO right now :gun:

I shot a music video on RED a few days back and I'll probably have to cut it in Premiere... I was expecting to upgrade to CS4 when it's released and have a working workflow but judging from this thread that won’t work? (Thought I saw RED support in Adobes official specifications!? Why did they announce it just to pull it a few days later?) So there's no point in waiting to upgrade.

How does the Prospect 4K demo work? Does the fotage get watermarked or something? If I'm able to cut the whole video in those 15 days will I have a finished product without having to buy anything? Id rather not pay $2000 for prospect 4k now if the free RED-plug is released in the near future.

How will I go about working with the RED-files in AfterEffect? I need to do a bit of VFX and grading... Will Prospect allow me to do that or is this solution only for Premiere?

That is the same way I started using CineForm. I had a specific project I needed to finish and I was sure I could do it in 15 days. So I installed the trial and finished the project with it. That worked very well and it was only after that I decided to make the investment into CineForm.

There will be no watermark or anything. You will have the fully functional software for 15 days. But beware to only install it on your main machine when you are really starting the project, so that you do not run out of time. (I first tested it on a secondary machine)

The problem with that idea is that CineForm has a 2-3 year advantage in respect to integration experience with Adobe products and post workflow in general. I am curious to see what Rob and the gang can do - but to expect the same speed from a "Version 1 plugin" that can import R3D files into PR vs. CineForm RAW that has been designed with post-performance in mind and CineForm offering a full replacement of the PR playback engine - is a bit over the top if you ask me.

There is a reason CineForm can charge 2k for that and a lot of people are happy to pay, including myself.

When you install CineForm it also installs the necessary plugin for AfterEffects. If you have ActiveLink installed, you can use the AE project on the PR timeline and also open PR projects in AE. It all works seamlessly.

I personally do not see a way around CineForm if you want to use Adobe. Even if the R3D plugin will be available at some point you still will need an intermediate codec if you do serious color/effect work, and Prospect 4K also includes that as well (in addition to the CineForm RAW codec).

You are asking the same questions that I have been asking for some time now.

It is a sign of how badly organised this site is (and Red support) that it is only today that I have found out (or realised?) that I don't need to go the Cineform or plug-in route.

I think that I can read the R3D files using RedCine and then export them in a format that Premiere and After Effects can use. The only downside is a lengthy wait for them to be rendered.

Is my understanding correct?
If so, then WHY ISN'T THERE AN EASY TO FIND DOCUMENTATION OF THIS ???????????



With regard to using Cineform, I got caught out by this when HDV first came out. In Premiere 1.5 there was no support for HDV, so Adobe and Cineform brought out 1.5.1 which encoded the HDV as Cineform AVIs. So I managed to start editing OK.

But then came Premiere Pro 2, which had built-in support for HDV m2t files, but my Cineform AVIs were no longer usuable. So I had to recapture everything. What a pain that was!

i.e. If you start with Cineform, you have to stay with Cineform.


But to answer your question (AFAIK), yes if you manage to import, edit and render your footage within 15 days then you should be OK.

That sounds interesting, is this the first time you use Cineform? Please tell us how it's working out for you. Go in to as much detail as your time will allow you to ;-)



Are there any video tutorials online about the cineform+premiere+after effects workflow?
