  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Recommendation for ND filters for Nikons?

I don't like the changes in colour when I use my screw-in ND filter on Nikons with Red. Can anyone suggest the superior options for screw-in ND filters?

If your not using a matte box then try cokin P series or larger filters. They work well for some applications.

www.2filters.com is one good source.

I would look at B&W filters. For still photo lenses these are usually considered higher end. They cost more but have higher quality glass (with much less light loss). They are also more sturdy and have brass rings (vs. softer metals that are usually used) which have the advantage of being less likely to splinter etc. and damage the threads on the actual lens.

You can get these at B&H photo or at http://www.2filter.com/prices/BWfilters.html

I use Hoya Pro1D series filters both with my D-SLR and the RED.

Me too. I've been happy with the results using multi-coated Hoya screw-in filters. I haven't noticed any annoying color shifts using them. With my DSLR and REDs I'm shooting RAW, not RGB, so obviously nothing is baked into the images. The only filters I use with RED or my DSLR are polarizer and ND filters. With RED, in pre-post or post grading it is simple to tweak the chroma of RED R3D files to where we want it for each application or use.

B+W here. No issues that I'm aware of. I have .6 and .9. I have also used Tiffen ND Grad, and Tiffen Polarizer.

I do however need to get a screw-in IR filter, as I only have them in 4x5.6 for my matte box. Any recommendations on a good one for the Red?
