  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Give Red a damn break...

Don, you're out of line. Zakaree makes a decent post explaining he has sacrificed a lot and is asking clarification on what a good strategy would be. He does not ask for anything. Peter, also a valuable member, makes a good post about *a different* product suggestion, of which Jim is free to take or leave.

Neither one of them made the posts that even resemble what you are accusing them of.

Stop using the straw man fallacy.

Maximum respect Shawn, for being an early adopter and I appreciate the risk you personally took jump on the RED wagon early on.

PS: I am running a high fever and maybe it is just my overcooked brain talking here - so please read this with a grain of salt...

For me Peter is off the hook, blame it on the fever!

Zakaree got answered by Jim, so that's that.

However if you check Don's RED number, he's just about to receive his RED and the last thing he would need is some guys who have enjoyed their REDs and are in quasi panic, especially since the Scarlet (was) threatening their current segment of business. Second, no matter how nice Jim is, there is a certain amount of disrespect, jokingly or otherwise, in telling him how the RED should be scrapped to make him ... more money?

I want to buy a RED, I can't afford it right now, but I can tell you it doesn't matter to me if it doesn't make money quickly. I can afford the Scarlet but I don't want it. I will mostly use mine for keying work and will rent it out to the movie makers. Here in Kenya, I suppose I won't get top dollar rental on it. But that wasn't the Jim's plan nor mine, or was it?

"Future-proof" if I'm not mistaken. I mean, come on! Find a better deal outside the Sally-Ann (if they're selling cameras now) and jump on it!

It does seem that the size of the RED ONE is now coming into question, at about a foot long and ten pounds; two to three feet with accessories and who can count the weight? But hell, what a machine!

I read some quote from K. Sutherland that he couldn't perform his all in front of a small cam set-up like the HVX200; that they tested on the set of "24". The RED ONE set-up not only gives you quality (don't sell it short), it gives you presence! Just like Led Zeppelin! (Sorry, I keep plucking away on my '61 SG as I await news on my order/shipment....

"However if you check Don's RED number, he's just about to receive his RED and the last thing he would need is some guys who have enjoyed their REDs and are in quasi panic..."

For the sake of clarity, I actually received my Red a couple of weeks ago and it's amazing. So I'm not the guy sitting around hoping he made the right decision. I KNOW I made the right decision, and I'm confident that if I can't make something happen with this camera, it's nobody's fault but my own.

I'll try and post some footage later...

Freudian slip ?

You've gotta watch them guys from NY with those burly old couches!

well said shawn..

to all you folks.. for your information.. there are a lot of red owners.. the majority?.. worried w/ the evolution.. from day one.. nab'08 day one..

well said!

well said!

If you can't use your camera to tell great stories, then sell the damn thing, because there are a hundred kids who can. Jim had a vision. It's not his fault if you don't. He doesn't owe you a damn thing.

THIS CAMERA CREATED MY OWN PERSONAL PARADIGM SHIFT

"la nouvelle vague rouge"

i agree with you Don Julio- i saw the thread and it defenately sounds like someone who will hate to see another person get a peace of equipment for less price than what they got theirs. it sounded like someone trying to keep a class of buyers (ie. i can get the red one therefore i am. you get the scarlet. therefore you are not). those it make sense?

Actually not me... isn't a brand that will sustain your business.
Sorry mate i disagree.

I am with Don Julio.

Red is a paradigm shift not your DAD, run for your bred Forrest.

red has been a promised land where jannard has played the part of god into a nowhere land.. now other gods have been waking up.. what shall the red's part be from now?..

to share the souls with the other devils?.. they can't be ignored no matter what you fanboys are always saying w/ your "yeahs", "yups" and "jims".. you will be the first to abandon the ship.. no doubts here..

or looking after an own identity?.. the red company identity actually.. from the day one.. nab'06 day one.

Sorry man your speach does not mean nothing for me...
Your pseudo poem either.

I didnt get in the same boat that you do ...i just bought ONE camera...thats all. And to tell you the truth am using the other ones that arrived in my country as well, for almost a year. I loved...great images, amazing workflow, and...and....
Im planning to buy other RED equipments, like RED RAY, "DSRL Killer"...why not?? Thats why I am here, talking, learning and searching ( first of all).

Sorry if RED One is your life, and the wheel drive isnt driven by you.
You are here since your pretty 6 and didnt understood yet.

I really really want that you could understand my bad english and the underlines.

My apologies with other redusers and with you Don... missing this thread time with personal craps.

Cheers

Life is a giant up hill treadmill, run hard

Please take Your time and read it through...

Shawn and few other with open eyes & mind - thank You for stepping up on my behalf - it is much appreciated. I am glad that some have seen the post for what it meant to be...

Cheers,

Peter

no worries.. any thread would survive to your entry.. :) my poetry too.. including the pseudo one.. we shall not forget you.. how might we..?

Why the worry? Has RED ever given you any reason to believe we leave our customers behind? Will the RED ONE stop working when we release EPIC? We have given the RED ONE owners three choices. Upgrade to EPIC and trade in your RED ONE for FULL credit. Upgrade your sensor as we go along. Or do nothing and shoot your camera that is the same as those being used to shoot feature films. I'm not exactly sure what everyone is worried about. I know of no other company that has EVER cared about their customers previous purchases. Maybe you can help me here.

Jim

Jim, I dont think anyone's really worried, this thread is mostly just BS hyperbole.

Btw, how many years did your team spec a Red to be functional for?

Shawn... I guess that answer is a question. How many years will images that the RED ONE makes now be useable? If the answer is 10... then I see no problem. If the answer is less, then I might want to upgrade my sensor when possible or upgrade to EPIC. And EPIC has a free sensor upgrade included in the price.

In the world of electronics, I think what we are proposing is extraordinary. Maybe I'm delusional?

Jim

If you're delusional...stay that way :-).

I think what you are doing is more than fair, it's outright generous.

My question was more my engineer background talking, I meant, how many years will Red *physically* work? Consumer electronics are only spec'd to last 18 months, laptops are only designed to work 3 years, airplan avionics are spec'd to 10 years. I'm asking about, based on what parts you and your team designed in, how many years the Red will physically operate. Assuming say, 75 days of use a year and it's treated well (not dropped, not submerged, etc).
