  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Why would you want to bolt it to the rods?

The idea has always been that the Impero could be used ad a traditional follow focus - except being a lot more versatile. I love that it's wireless, but I know I won't be able to have an AC with me on all jobs with the RED.

Yup, the pics are of the pad-printed ones. They dont seem to hold up for long (the ink doesn't stay put). We are going to be using 3m adhesive backed lexan labels. They are virtually indestructible.

Awesome! I just love the colors on the renderings :-)

As for the plastic'y thing.... I had a few options in regards to the materials... 1) make a non-ergonomic billet aluminum controller and charge you guys $2000 for it. 2) make an ergonomic die cast controller and spend $100K on tooling then charge you guys $2000 for it. 3) Make an ergonomic NYLON 6/6 controller that is made of the same material that chevy uses on the intake headers on their 600HP corvette. I chose 3. The side benefits are that you can hang it from the lanyard around you neck and barely notice its there. You can fit it in your coat pocket. You can leave it on a cart for lunch and still be able to pick it up without burning/freezing your hands due to the current weather conditions. These things are very robust. As for noises coming from the plastic.. that's not a problem we have seen as of yet.

Sounds great, Curt. It's really hard to judge the actual quality on pictures like these, so I guess I'll just wait until I'm actually holding the thing in my hands. I trust you've made the best cost effective solution there is. Would you consider milling an aluminum frame if someone wanted it? (I know it wouldn't be cheap) ;-)

The inset speedcrank got ditched awhile ago due to the complexities of the type of encoder we are using. We were trying to make an adjustable dampening system but ended up dumping it due to the time it was adding to the schedule. I think we have a very elegant design now and the feel of the wheel is very nice and smooth. We have a medium amount of dampening that I think many people will like.

Again - this is just something I'll have to play with when I get my Impero. I'm a little sad the inset got ditched though, because that means I'll have to buy a traditional follow focus anyway.

Well, if you want the inset square key for the whip or speed crank then we can make a compression insert that goes in the hole that is in the knob. That way you just plop it in and tighten a screw to clamp it in place. Another option is that we can place a small battery pack and led setup that can shine light on the ring and make it nice for night operation.

These are great options Curt, sign me up for both!

curt, what's the story? I have been emailing viewfactor , trying to order marking discs,.. no news of shipping origo's, mine was supposed to have gone out already, sorry to do this on here but had no replies to mails.

Bob, I'm very sorry. I looked through my email and did indeed see your request. I will send you and email to resolve the problem you're having.

Jay, we have a serial cable that runs from our receiver to the birger mount. The receiver has both a bus connection for wired control to Impero as well as a wireless transceiver for wireless control.

Any chance that the Impero will work with Andy Alesniak's EOS mount? (He needs to name that thing.)

Depends on the serial protocol.. shouldn't be a problem. I just sent him a PM.
Abu.. we are running a little behind due to a machining issue on the die cast housings now.. luckily its not a tool problem so they are expediting replacements to us this week. Should be on track next week.

We appreciate your efforts, Curt.

My condolences to your pillow.

You used to have the wired controller (prototype). Are you still planning them and how much is it?

Also, I was thinking your bluetooth would just talk to the birger mount. That isn't the case?

The controller uses zigbee which uses much less power than bluetooth. Our transceivers draw about 2mW vs. Bluetooth which draws close to 50mW. We could easily make a replacement module for the controller so that it can use bluetooth though (the transceiver is removable).

Hi Curt

Zigbee is 2.4GHz right?

Had a sudden panic attack when I decided to read up on UK Ofcom's selling and reallocation of UK RF spectrum!
