right. but some people ordered more then 1 motor. For instance, I ordered 3 motors (#23,24,25) with Impero #20.

they will run out of motors before they get to Impero #50. At least that is what I think macville was asking about.

Yeah, what I was talking about was originally posted on Viewfactor's forum, but I think it has since disappeared. Curt had said on there that the numbers were for the motors and not the controller. AKA, I have controller #87, but motor #113 (I'm sorry, but I can't ever remember which name is for the controller and motor!) Therefore, the shipping number for motor would be how they ship (I wish it were the other way around!)

Looking forward to hold this thing in my hand... But I gotta say - it looks a lot more "plastic'y" than I had originally thought. Hopefully it won't have that squeaky sound as some plastic parts have when different part rub agains eachother. Curt - the white print isn't the final print, right? The image (render) of the Impero I ordered mine on the basis of was the one with yellow/orange/gray print on, which looked really cool. Also - what happened to the inset on the wheel for something like a speedcrank when the Impero is bolted onto the rods?

Yup, the pics are of the pad-printed ones. They dont seem to hold up for long (the ink doesn't stay put). We are going to be using 3m adhesive backed lexan labels. They are virtually indestructible. As for the plastic'y thing.... I had a few options in regards to the materials... 1) make a non-ergonomic billet aluminum controller and charge you guys $2000 for it. 2) make an ergonomic die cast controller and spend $100K on tooling then charge you guys $2000 for it. 3) Make an ergonomic NYLON 6/6 controller that is made of the same material that chevy uses on the intake headers on their 600HP corvette. I chose 3. The side benefits are that you can hang it from the lanyard around you neck and barely notice its there. You can fit it in your coat pocket. You can leave it on a cart for lunch and still be able to pick it up without burning/freezing your hands due to the current weather conditions. These things are very robust. As for noises coming from the plastic.. that's not a problem we have seen as of yet.

The inset speedcrank got ditched awhile ago due to the complexities of the type of encoder we are using. We were trying to make an adjustable dampening system but ended up dumping it due to the time it was adding to the schedule. I think we have a very elegant design now and the feel of the wheel is very nice and smooth. We have a medium amount of dampening that I think many people will like.

Also - what happened to the inset on the wheel for something like a speedcrank when the Impero is bolted onto the rods?

Why would you want to bolt it to the rods? Personally, as an operator and AC, in both situations I rather not be, or have someone in my space. Being able to step back even 2ft from the camera where I would normally pull focus, that's really nice. Now, if you want a speed crank while operating remotely, that I understand as you might need to do a big rack (although, aren't we supposed to be able to adjust the "gear" ratio so we can turn the knob a little and have the motor go further?)

I too had the aprehention of it being a little flimsy also.
But I was lucky enough to play around with a prototype of the
casing it its actually very nice and robust.
Its most certainly some sort of plastic but it feels more like a delron
or other robust plastic.

Also the dampening Curt added to the knob is just down right sexy, feel really nice.

I guarantee you will not be dissapointed.
Besides this is a first gen product and no one i know is making such
elegant and well though out devices for this market.

I hope Curt's product will inspire other vendors to step up to the plate as he has and push the envelope with new and exciting products.

Bartec.... Preston
whens the last time you saw a redesign from them??

and not to mention at this price point.

We are going to be compatible with the Birger mount. We have a serial port on the Impero receiver that can talk to his unit with a short cable. As soon as I get a hold of one we will start poking around and make it work. I expect that it will have to be a firmware update a couple months from now...

That's great news. I wish you guys the greatest success. You're turning out some impressive products.
