  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Your wait for EVF finally over!!!!!!

if the design and quality of this is up to the standard of Jacek's other work then I wouldn't hesitate to investigate this option. When no one else would tackle the pl mount conversion of my Canon K35 primes from their BNCR mounts Jacek took up the challenge and succeeded wonderfully. Three films later and they have been a real pleasure to use and the work was top notch. I guess that ends my pimping of Jacek's skills....

Three movies- not bad!!!

Three movies- not bad!!!

Hello Adrian,
Three movies- that's great!!
It looks that you have been busy with your babies...
Is there a place I could see the movies? Can you send me a reel DVD with the shots by K35s? I haven't seen any real footage by Red and K35s.

Thank you for the endorsments BTW, it's appreciated.
The clip-on finder production version will be smaller, lighter and will have better ergonomics than the prototype.
Anyone with suggestions for improvements is welcome now- I'm about to cut the fabricators loose on the first batch!!!!!

Jacek

Jacek,

My EVF just arrived - a couple of hours before I leave to shoot the feature. I sent you a PM thanking you for your offer to let me borrow your prototype. But I also wanted to say publicly how much I appreciate your offer. It took a lot of pressure off me knowing that I would have a solution if the EVF didn't arrive in time.

I thought people might like to know the heart of the vendors they are doing business with. Somebody that will go out of their way to be helpful without any regard to how the kindness will benefit themselves is the kind of business owner that I want to spend my money with. I believe others feel the same way.

You've made my day, Larry!!!

Thank you Larry,
This is the best kind of advertising one could get IMO.
I do have a question for the red community :
Can someone give ma a straight answer
With all due respect:
Why would anyone rather spend $3500 on an EVF if they can achieve the same functionality for almost 1/10 the price?
I understand that EVF has slightly higher resolution (1280*848 vs 1024*600)
but LCD has bigger screen so it's easier to see. I think the two offset each other. Also the EVF is heavier and draws extra power.
WHAT ELSE IS THERE THAT "MAKES IT SUPERIOR"?
I understand that the rental houses would want the EVF to justify the rental prices especially given the (diminishing fast) limited availability.
The private owners however are in different situation.

This is not a stab at RED- I think that the EVF is a good value especially given the former $12,000+ price tag for the Accuscene.
I just wonder if there are some features that I could add to my Clip-On Finder to make it more attractive!!!

One specific advantage of the EVF is the overall size vs. your solution especially for handheld use in addition to creating a more professional looking setup.

I would be interested in one Jacek, my red one isn't due for a few months.
What is the general rule now, for deliveries, are the EVF still not shipping with the cameras? Still a backlog?
If so, i think your device is very useful.
I must admit, its not the prettiest accessory ive seen, maybe some people dont like the strange shape. For me, i dont care, as it is the images that need to look beautiful not the device your using to get them with. (i have often filmed with strange devices, some people thought i was drilling for oil once, whaha)

I was planning to order the EVF but now you have made me think twice, especially with all the issues surrounding the expensive EVF and the delay in delivery, i could easily use that $3500 on a nice lens. I dont plan to hire out my package for a while so i could always get the EVF if i see the need in future.

I would have replied earlier, but its difficult to manage the HUGE content in these forums, and hard to justify spending hours here in my free time hehe.

So count me in.

IBC would be good.!!!

Jasek, I'm very interested and don't know how I missed this thread. The title must have made me think it was just about the EVF, which I've never budgeted to be part of my camera package, so I just skipped over it. I entered today through a link in another thread and was most intrigued when I saw what it was actually about.

To clarify:

Your device will simply magnify the image on the 5.6" RED LCD and isolate it from surrounding/ambient light, much as the lens on any viewfinder does?

I presume the eyepiece will have a diopter or other adjustment for those of us that need glasses for close up viewing?

Is it too late to get the $50 discount? I'm still a while out from getting my camera (waiting for audio fixes and the Birger Nikon mount), but I'd consider buying your device now if I can save the extra $.

flipup to turn into hoodman?

flipup to turn into hoodman?

A usefull feature for low ambient light work would be to make say 1/4 of the hood including the optics flip up out of line of sight of the screen.

This gives the unit the features of both a lcd (with hoodman) and monocular viewfinder.

that's an interesting idea mike, you could just flip it up for a quick shot if you needed to back up or show someone instead of taking it off. It would probably hinge in the front third and just flip up and rest on the top. It adds a complication to manufacturing I'm sure, but it is a clever idea.

Ditto!

Very nice idea Mike.

I spoke with Jacek yesterday and we will definitely be getting one of his viewers. Even if it is too late in the manufacturing process to incorporate the "hoodman" idea, I suspect we will make that modification here in our small shop.

Great idea.

raulgonzo,

I don't want to paint Jacek into any corners because we had a very casual conversation; but he said he had found a way to improve the optics thereby making the viewer shorter.

Even with these changes, however, I understood him to say he hoped to see completed viewers by month's end.

today, after reviewing poorly focused test footage shot during harsh overhead sunlight I realized that I definitely need jacek's product. Bring it on! I pmd him a couple days ago and he said he'd throw me in the early adopter group, so get in while you still can.

good thing it was just test footage.. which is why we test....
