  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Origo Record stop/start button

Damien, I put the 15th as a date that I know I can hit, but most likely it will ship before that. Shoot me an email or PM with the cable length you need and I'll make sure we get a price to you. We can probably give you a loaner if the scedule starts looking a little tight so make sure you remind me around the 1st of August so I can get something setup for you.

Thanks Curran. Guys, I noticed one issue with our cables... our CM didn't put any locktite on the threads of the collets for the cables so there may be a problem during shipping of the collet nut working loose. If you receive a cable that has any problems then feel free to contact us for the new and improved locktited version. Or if you are an enterprising type just back off the nut a few turns and put a dab of medium strength locktite on the threads and re-tighten.

will you please explain it in some picture of where the problem is and how to fix it :waaa:
cause it is difficult once we receive it , to ship it again
especially for us whome living outside usa

Ok, heres the potential issue and fix. If you get a cable that's not together then let us know and we will send you a new one and have you send the suspect cable back to us. As I said before, theres no guarantee that this will happen, I'm just trying to be proactive in case.

Thanks Darren. Yes, its just a preventative measure. Shipping can do some amazing things to products. We shipped everything in a thick layer of bubble wrap but the vibrations of an airplane ride and heat/cold sometimes work things loos in transit. Like I said, the cables were tight when they left but I took one apart and it came apart a little too easy. My gut tells me that we may have a few that arrive loosened. We've taken care of this issue for all orders here forward but there are at least 30 -40 cables that you guys should keep an eye out for.

It's nice to see your dedication to quality is so high Curt. It puts a lot of confidence towards the fact that your gear will be very well built and durrable for many years to come.

That's great service, although easy to fix yourself unless the inner metal half shells have fallen out and got lost!

Yeah, true... if that comes up then I have another fix-it guide for that scenario :) . Love your Bueller tag line BTW.

It's worth it's weight in gold for 3 reasons it's start stop abilites, it's roll / cut beep tone and also as a battery gauge. I'm using non-red batteries and it's much more accurate than the built in display.

Just a question Matt, how does the Origo work as a battery gauge for third party batteries? If the RED can't figure out how much battery power is left, how does the Origo?

I'd like to know as well. Also, what would the delivery schedule be if I ordered one now?

If one of the pins on the Red socket you connect to has +V unregulated from the battery, then you can just measure that voltage to estimate the battery condition. Without knowing the type of battery, the total load, etc. you can't know "minutes remaining", but you can have a "good/ fading/ dangerously low" traffic light type indicator based on how close you are to Red's cutout voltage. I gather that is what the Origo does. If you shoot with the same batteries and the same accessories all the time, then you could even match up some number of minutes remaining to the lights.

Of course the Red camera could do this too. Apparently, the red designers chose not to.

Yeah, thats exactly what we are doing. I hooked a power supply up to the camera and decremented the voltage in 0.1V steps. I then looked at the screen and noted the corresponding values. By taking all the data from this we generated a lookup table that alerts you to 15 minutes remaining, 5 minutes, and 1 minute remaining but its tailored for the red batteries. If you use a different brand than the red then the characteristics of the battery curve differ so the alerts may be different.... but consistent.

The tricky part is that you cannot truly know the life of a battery by monitoring the voltage. You need to monitor current/voltage and know the characteristics of the battery to do that but this is a good way to generally know when you you to have a look at the battery meter on the battery and decide if they need to be changed out.

Yeah - I keep it there to remind me, as I forget all too often!
