Here is a 6 min medieval fantasy short, shot entirely on Red and entirely using natural light (sun & fire, Grip&Electric: God). Comments appreciated. This is an experimental film done for the DVXUser TimeFest contest.

Btw, my avatar was taken during the making of this short

EDIT: New color grade done after feedback http://www.brainspasm.com/red/Aetas/Aetas_FinalistVer.mov

Very nice work Shawn.
You pulled off the subtitles well. Love the timelapse.

I'm guessing you have an extensive collection of dice.
Good times good times!

Lol, no, I've never actually played D&D, Magic or any of those games. I just love movies like Braveheart, Gladiator, etc.

Btw, I used Crimson extensively with this and it was my first project done using it. This is one where the timeline got fubar'd by all my crossfading, I still need to email you my xml.

Sweet, another fine contribution from Shawn. Thanks. What's lens package did you use? The reflections were just a little too reflective right?

Shawn, I LIKE it!
I recognize our beautiful Oregon coast but where did you shoot that flat open plain?

Loved it Shawn

Great idea going with the Elvish-speak. It totally immersed me into that world for a moment. Great piece! Hope you slay the competition

I find that problem also. My solution? Extend your tail and heads for those clips that you want dissolves on. Then manually add the cross fade in later, after you render out through Crimson.

Shawn,

Nice work man. At times I could care less what camera it was shot on, it just looked like a movie. That says a lot. Look forward to seeing more from you.

Shawn nice work I really enjoyed it. It felt a little washed out and videoish at times, but that could be resolved by just pushing the contrast a bit.

By the way great composition, and lighting. A well done professional piece. Good luck in the competition.

Sure buddy... and I was never really into computers... and I was the homecoming king.

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

Glad you found CW helpful, hopefully it will get more helpful in the near future.

Lol.

Crimson was phenomenally helpful. Stay around! I am singing your praises and making converts here in Portland, telling everyone that if they are shooting Red and working on a Mac, they should be using Crimson.

Very nice, I guess Oregon is the new Middle Earth :-) I assume this was all shot in Oregon? Only thing I think could have helped give it a bit more of the particular cinematic quality commonly associated with this type of stories is a color grading with a bit more contrast, saturation and a bit stronger blacks. But that's just me of course.

Very nice Shawn! I enjoyed.

Very nice work Shawn. Your RED is in worthy hands.
