Hi All,

This is my second time posting re this, hope no one minds!

I've got a Cooke 20-100 zoom with no lens support! I need to get hold of a lens support ring, t-bar or similar which I can use with my Red universal mount or some kind of solution!

I've tried Dulcos, who we're very nice but couldn't help. Cooke in the UK who we're no help at all and ZGC who never replied!

Anyone else out there who's successfully cracked this one? Or do I have to go to a metal shop, get some made and then sell them to all the other 20-100mm owners who are in the same position at a stupidly high price?? :shifty:

Thanks everyone!

zacuto has a lens mount. check their website

Not the prettiest solution, but this strap lens support from Cavision should do the job perfectly well, price $65. It looks easy enough to replace the strap with something that would look a bit more "becoming" if you were so inclined

Does your lens have any additional brackets or components attached or is it just a bare lens? Just curious what you have to work with.

The strap strap solution that Martin posted is a great one to get you up and running until you find something better. I'm surprised that Cooke, Duclos, ZGC were of no help.

Hi Jeff,

many of those zooms are old workhorses and therefore miss one or the other part. I know you've got a pristine 18-100 but my 20-100 as many others is still a very fine lens with an eventful history. While time passes by some parts get lost. My one missed the 19mm bridge but still got the ring bracket.

Since Cooke did not make many of those brackets, they are kind of hard to find with no lens. I find Martins suggestion viable and surely a good base for improvements.

Actually I use a Red Universal Mount as a bridge with a screw and a riser I found in my repair shop. Works fine and was a 0 USD investment (excluiding the Universal Mount). An orignal Arri 19" bridge is endlessly more expensive and not even better looking.

You got off easy, as the clamping ring is the hard part to make. As you say if you have it you just need to make a spacer to work with what ever brand of bridge you have. Wish I had a machine shoppe up here in Orygun. lol

Zacuto makes a lens support. It doesn't wrap around much, just supports it. I guess the PL mount will keep it from moving back and forth if you are filming that way??

Anyways, I have this lens as well. Mine came with a support, but like others have mentioned, they are rare pieces.

ZGC doesn't have them, don't even bother with them, I tried. Visual Products ended up getting me another support since I bought the lens from them.

The Zacuto looks like your best bet, their accessories are high quality by the way.

It's very close to the 18-100 which is still produced and a marveless lens. Shot 3 commercials with it on the Red so far and another 10 or so 15 years ago on 35mm. In its time it was revolutionary and many famous features were shot with it. Huge and heavy with an unique kind of focus roll-off and a very special 3 dimensional feel.

Hard to find good ones now, I suppose.

Another great thing about the 20-100 is that it's an optical techs dream to work on. You can slip off the outer shells and have acess to the componets that control the tracking of the variator and compensator groups. Those are the two internal optical groups that make a zoom lens a zoom lens. Much easier then some other designs. And the universal lens mounting system makes for rapid mount change and set up of the back focus. These and other factors can reduce the cost of repair work if the person or shop is honest about the hours they charge. Plus like the Super Baltars there is something dreamy and creamy about the image these lenses make. I like it.

Mmmmmmm..
Super Baltars..
niiiiiiiice.

Yeah I know you likem. Your PL conversions look nicely done. Back in the late sixties and early seventies when I was doing my time at Century and different rental houses there was always something nice about working on those lenses. Built like a tank.

Would love to see how sharp the cooke/RED combo is any chance of a grab?

Ideally of a landacape cityscape something at infinity as Im considering it for aerials

I was lucky enough to get a support ring for my Cooke 20-100 from a rental house, they had one laying arround, so you may try that route, got a Arri support bracket for it and it´s fine. However i have a spare support ring for Arri 15mm Standard which i can sell.
