Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
Just to add some salt to the wound: never update quicktime or any other crucial component
on a production system
within the first few weeks of its release
Test it first on a separate system/partition, wait and hear what other daring souls say. At least have a backup of your working system before upgrading.
Larry Jordan recommends not upgrading Quicktime unless you are upgrading Final Cut or the OS or your current system does not work. In other words: never change a winning team / If it ain´t broke, don´t fix it.
I have uploaded a modified Quicktime installer package that allows you to downgrade to Quicktime 7.3
(I keep a copy on my computer in case I ever need to downgrade)
I have had some problems with the new Redcode Quicktime component v3.0. Once upgraded, importing into Avid gives a weird white negative image. Compressor also incorrectly displays the quicktimes with the same effect, but is able to transcode properly, though. Downgrading to Quicktime component 1.5 seems to solve everything. I also saw some significant performance hits on imports with the new component. I went from 12:1 import ratio with the new component to about 6:1 with the old v1.5. I confirmed my findings on both OS 10.4 and 10.5 with the Dual Quad and single Quad computer, and both with Avid Media Composer 2.8.3 and v.3.0. I can safely say I've been around the block with this, so if you don't require the new component (i.e. you are not using footage shot in 4K 16:9), I would recommend against upgrading for the time being, unless someone has some info I'm lacking? Anyone else had this problem?
