This is probably my first real post although I have been a member for a long time. But I felt I should share this with all anyway.

I've been following this saga since the beginning and I have always believed in what red is doing/has done. But it's often easier to believe in something that you have never seen. Sometimes I would read the threads and occasionally I would get the same feeling I get when I hear religious zealots talking about their faith (no offense meant to anyone here). It was just like "these people are too happy, it's too good to be true" and I knew the camera was good, but every now and then I would wonder...

Well, tonight I went to see one for the first time, I walked into the room and saw it out of the corner of my eye lying on the table and immediately I looked away and tried not to look at it. I don't know what it was, why I reacted that way, perhaps it's because I wanted it to stay a dream. I got my hands on it and it's something special, really, ergonomically it is just beautiful to look at. Then I was shown the work flow and messed around in Redcine a bit, and what I saw floored me. So much info and totally elastic.

I was sitting thinking about it earlier, and this is one dream I am so glad is now a reality. To the guys at Red, Jim and Team, I don't know what to say, well done is not enough, I just hope you all have exceptionally long lives and get to enjoy every success you have created for yourselves, you have forever changed digital cinema for the better, There are not enough words...

What RED has done...

What RED has done...

... you have forever changed digital cinema for the better, There are not enough words...

They have made the impossible possible. You can now concentrate on the actor's performances rather than the $$$ going down the drain as the footage counter clicks away.

Before RED ONE (tm) you had the option of 35mm or maybe Super 16mm or HD video within the cost limits for a micro budget feature.

Now you have something that is in many ways for an INDY that must do his own editing and mixing is much better than even 35mm film for these reasons:

1) No Dust.
2) No scratches, finger prints, and muck.
3) No glue or TCE.
4) You can erase the bad take and use the media over.
5) True 24fps direct to DPX and TIFF without scanning.
6) High EI and standard Cine lenses.
7) Less grain than unprocessed film scans at 4K resolution.
8) Lower cost and better results, closer to studio in technical aspects.

Of those 4 and some others could be done with video, but video is video, not a sequence of good still frames like film scans. If you do your own work such as negative cutting and scanning with film you begin to respect how hard film is to work with, and how hard it is to over come the dust, scratches, and finger prints that get into your raw film scans.

Being able to shoot with what is in effect an unlimited ratio by reusing the media any number of times makes a huge improvement in your end result if you have the time to shoot 100 takes of each shot. On an INDY micro budget using 35mm film you try to get each take to be usable, if you do that, your end result looks like something made ONLY of bad takes. Not having to worry about the cost of additional takes just by itself is a good reason to sell your 35mm movie camera and purchase the RED ONE (tm). If the highlights are more like slide film that negative film most DP should be able to live with that, the RED ONE (tm) is not as bad as video of the past, and is better perhaps than some older film stocks that were used to make great films.

It levels the field of filmmaking for the part behind the camera lens, but RED ONE (tm) should also help move more of the budget to what is in front of the camera as well for micro budget productions and so should be good for all aspects (almost) of the finished product.

It's actually got a small pheromone emitter hidden under the body. You can actually see the ducts if you look carefully- that greatly enhances the feel of sexiness you feel in the camera's presence.

My biggest fear was that filmmaking was gong to become too easy. But the more I work with this camera, and see other footage, it is clear to me that talent and experience are still just as important. The Red One just allows more freedom for experimentation.

I'm shooting a really beautiful script in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya soon, it has so much potential to be a great movie, but originally we were going to shoot on a smaller camera, which immediately turns most distributors away. We're shooting on RED, which gives the film so much more appeal, and puts us in another league. As well as setting a new standard for films in industries where there are no big budgets to speak of, ever. Essentially, indirectly, this camera helps to promote a better understanding among people in the world by making poorer countries films more distributable.

This is the REAL reason for startup times - the pheromone emitter has to heat up before it can work properly. There is residual emission of pheromones when the Red is powered down, about 10% of what full emission is when the Red is powered up.

Now, ask me who killed Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. Yes, I know the REAL truth - it's a shocker!

Welcome to the cult. :)

Once you use it... there's no going back.

Looking forward to meeting you at the Inner Sanctum meetings.

That would explain the annoying physical reaction I have.

Like MvG, I've been lurking around these boards getting like 10+ feeds a day on the RSS. I am not surprised that the RED ONE is that attractive. I've noticed some camera offers where $10k have been shaved off the prices.

MvG, since you'll be coming to this neck of the woods, when would that be? I need to drink from that 'Marula bottle you have there.

Other than the creepy sense that I have joined some kind of religion, I am very excited about this camera and the possibilities it has given me. I am on a nature shoot in Eastern Oregon right now and enjoying the daily routine, the quickness, the portability, the ease of which we can strap it to our backs and hike to the waterfalls...

I own an F900R with lenses, etc. that I purchased 2 years ago. I'm not sure when I'll ever pick it up again. Oh, well.

With Build 16 coming down the pipes, I suppose the REDigion will grow. I noticed the Pani HPX 500 prices dropping. And now that wiht about $ 50k, one can have a complete RED set (body, lenses, EVF, etc), the Sony F9xx series are in trouble..
